NFL: Dolphins launch review of Jonathan Martin bullying; Texans' Gary Kubiak collapses during game | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

Only a few hours after the Dolphins announced that Jonathan Martin hadn’t complained to the organization about bullying from other players, the team announced they will be reviewing the matter.

The Dolphins and the NFL will be investigating allegations of player misconduct made Sunday by representatives of Martin.

Martin left the Dolphins on Oct. 28 to receive help for emotional issues. This raised questions about whether teasing from teammates played a role in his sudden departure from the team.

Sources told ESPN that an NFL Players Association review preliminary identified Miami guard Richie Incognito as the alleged offender. Incognito took to Twitter on Sunday, saying he wants his name cleared.

He tweeted at the ESPN account, “Shame on you for attaching my name to false speculation. I won’t be holding my breath for an apology.”

Later Sunday night, Jeff Darlington of NFL.com reported that Incognito was advised by coach Joe Philbin that he was suspended indefinitely while the NFL investigates.

The Dolphins have attributed Martin’s absence to an illness not tied to football.

ESPN reported that the second-year lineman left the team following a lunchroom incident with teammates and that Martin hadn’t filed an official complaint with the NFLPA due to fear of backlash from teammates.

It’s unclear whether Martin will return.

Reading more info, I'm starting to wonder if it is related to sexual orientation or something

Dolphins tackle Jonathan Martin remains away from the team following an incident at the facility last week in which other members of the offensive line verbally harassed him, something that has been ongoing throughout his season-and-a-half there according to sources with knowledge of the situation. Dolphins guard Richie Incognito, according to sources, was “the ring-leader,” of the ongoing bullying, acting particularly “menacing” toward Martin, while center Mike Pouncey was also involved.

Incognito is strongly denying any role in the matter on social media. The NFLPA, while not investigating the issue as it is not in a position to discipline its members for locker room activities, is monitoring it and Executive Director DeMaurice Smith has spoken to Incognito, sources said, as well as representatives for Martin.

That's it. That's the real issue here. In the past people have said everything under the sun in the NFL and locker rooms, but now, you can say every and anything and still play...except this.

Transcripts of voice mail messages and text messages left for the Miami Dolphins' Jonathan Martin by teammate Richie Incognito indicate a pattern of racial epithets and profane language.

Multiple sources confirmed to ESPN that the following is a transcript of a voice message Incognito left for Martin in April 2013, a year after Martin was drafted:

"Hey, wassup, you half n----- piece of s---. I saw you on Twitter, you been training 10 weeks. [I want to] s--- in your f---ing mouth. [I'm going to] slap your f---ing mouth. [I'm going to] slap your real mother across the face [laughter]. F--- you, you're still a rookie. I'll kill you."

Sources tell ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that officials from both the NFL and the Dolphins have heard the tape and have copies of the message.

Sources familiar with the tapes say these are terms Incognito used over time and were not isolated incidents, including the use of the racial epithet multiple times.

Sources also say Martin received a series of texts that include derogatory terms referring to the female anatomy and sexual orientation.

Incognito was suspended indefinitely by the Dolphins on Sunday night for conduct detrimental to the team.

In a statement announcing his suspension, the Dolphins said, "we believe in maintaining a culture of respect for one another and as a result we believe this decision is in the best interest of the organization at this time. As we noted earlier, we reached out to the NFL to conduct an objective and thorough review. We will continue to work with the league on this matter."

Incognito, who has been a part of Miami's six-player leadership council, started all eight games for the Dolphins (4-4). He will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. Backup guard Nate Garner will start in his place.

Martin left the team last week after a lunchroom incident. It is unknown whether and when Martin plans to return to the team. The Dolphins have until 4 p.m. ET Tuesday to take him off the non-football-related illness list.

Still alot of info missing somewhere. Martin is in the NFL. You don't make it to the NFL 'sheltered' all your life(maybe a small minority) Also I can't imagine being called anything N word related and none of the other black players not saying/doing anything. I've dealt with 'hazing' on the high school and university level but not like this. Incognito would have been 'addressed'(steroids or no steroids). Or maybe things have changed...which is worst case from my perspective..smh

Even if it is, based on that alone......

I'm not down with that hazing b.s., hence no soro in college, no military, no cheer leading or any of that mess.

A friend of mine, her brother is deaf in one ear due to fraternity hazing. Said he was asked questions based on frat history, each time he got one wrong...he would get clapped in his ears.

I've never been down with hazing, never been in a frat. Can only speak for myself but never been in a severe 'hazing' scenario playing high school or university. Never seen anyone else deal with it on that level either. Rookies usually just carry the bags and dummies and a select few even feel they're too good for that but it becomes more of a mental note, not hazing.

This seems like something else. It's more bullying but I'm trying to wrap my brain around how it's continued. They are the same size. I've watched
a 5'3" 170lb wrestler beat up a 6'2" 230 free safety. If I'm in the NFL, guys bigger than me will not intimidate me, let alone ONE dude the same size as me ...not to that point.

Maybe he's leaving the team so that he doesn't do anything to jeoperdize his career by defending himself. I wonder what happen in the lunch room.

damn that email transcript alone is troubling, but like DSP said maybe he's leaving so it won't hurt him going to another team.
