Anybody went to finishing school or grooming school?
Do you know all the "proper" utensils?

Does any of that stuff matter anymore?

That stuff is big to my mom and I guess it was w/ her mom cause certain things she'll be like "thank god my mother never live to see such and such". I never went to any finishing school but I went to a ballroom dancing class for like 4 months when I was in middle school and all that was part of it. At the end of the class we had to have a formal dinner and then dancing and all that. Funny that the awkward part was all the girls thought the guys were icky and vice versa, didn't really want to have to hold on and dance w/ them and all...nowadays they taking man in elementary school far more middle school.

oh and since I've witnessed the most awful manners from VPs and the like, I really don't think that stuff matters much in real life at least not to americans. Wasn't it an american woman that was reported to drink the water out of a finger bowl?

I didn't go to finishing or grroming school but I did get ettiquette lessons. It was also part of the training when I did Miss Dominica. We had to attend a lot of formal functions so that was essential. I also study hotel and restaurant management so learning the proper utensils, what goes wear and what is used for which course is also and important part of the education.

True, I've seen it but the trinis tend to be ppl w/out education or exposure whereas with the americans you see this from educated, wealthy supposedly well rounded ppl. Also, plenty west indians from humble circumstances still have impeccable manners.

It matters to me.
Right now in my aunt's daycare (I help her out from time to time) there is this girl (4 in a couple weeks) who has the worst table manners ever! she talks with her mouth full, chews very loudly, spits a lot when talking, she can't even chew with her mouth closed. Some may say she's just a kid but the other kids her age in the daycare are not like her! they have the ability to chew with their mouth closed and not dirty their entire face while eating.
When I go there I can't feed her yuh know, she disturbs me. lol
My husband too...he does eat so fast it's like he not even chewin, and doh let him have someting hot....he snappin and makin one settah noise. I does have to tell him hush. lol
