Brian Lara will not take part in the West Indies' tour of India next month after being hospitalised with suspected hepatitis.
He was taken to hospital on Tuesday after scoring a century in the team's Champions Trophy win against Kenya, but tests have yet to confirm the illness.

"Brian has being advised by medical specialists in Colombo that he will miss the West Indies immediate cricketing commitments," team manager Ricky Skerritt said.

"That will obviously rule him out of the India tour and I have advised the West Indies selectors that a replacement will be needed for that tour."

The trip to India features three Tests and seven one-day internationals.

Lara was out of form during the corresponding series in the Caribbean in April, hitting two half-centuries in a 2-1 win.

Academy: Hepatitis explained
Wes Hall, president of the West Indies Cricket Board said that the batsman's health was paramount, even though the tour is important for the rebuilding team.

"We are in touch with the management of the team and we will take whatever action is necessary to ensure that Brian returns to full health as soon as possible," he added.

If the illness is confirmed, Lara is likely to need two weeks of bed rest followed by four weeks of recuperation.

He complained of feeling unwell before the game against Kenya at the Sinhalese Sports Club.

But he was passed fit to play and went on to score 111 out of the team's 50-over total of 261.

Report: Windies beat Kenya
After Lara's innings came to an end, a doctor was called to examine him and it was immediately decided he should be taken to a local hospital.

He was named man of the match, but was unable to pick up his award.
