Mittelholzer Foundation hosts political, social discussion
Sunday, July 9th 2006 The Mittelholzer Foundation, an online forum designed to facilitate discussions on uniting Guyana, is inviting citizens to post their views on issues affecting their daily lives on its website. The group said it is only through an examination of our cultural and literary history that we become aware of the pain and suffering of our ancestors who fought for freedom and independence and citizens can muster the same strength to move Guyana from a society which blames other ethnic groups and political parties for problems to one filled with promise and opportunity. A statement from the foundation said it was named in honour of the late renowned Guyanese novelist Edgar Mittelholzer who, in his time, critiqued the injustices prevalent in the society. It is this spirit of civic responsibility that compelled the family to set up the forum to encourage interaction without the shadow of race and social standing. In keeping with this the foundation has invited the leaders of each political party to a discussion where they can state their ideologies and position on topical issues. Citizens are also invited to participate in the discussions by posting questions to the party leaders or on other issues on the foundation's website located at http://www.mittelholzer.org/forum/ The foundation also plans to republish Mittelholzer's works as it believes his novels transcend race and class tensions and celebrate Guyanese and Caribbean culture. The release said the author's works were published over the course of 19 years and Corentyne Thunder (1941) and Eltonsbrody (1960) remain among the most celebrated. http://www.stabroeknews.com/index.pl...ws?id=56498962 My sincere apologies to the moderators and members of this forum for my shameless plug but we have to use every opportunity we can at the Mittelholzer Foundation to further our cause to bring people together... As I have personally stated several times, I do not want to compete with or detract from any existing online site as I feel that they are all necessary and I promise to do my best to promote each and every one of them as much as possible (some of you are already featured in our links pages and I am hoping to do more in the future !!)... Our goal is simple... we ask that no matter what party, organization, race, social class, religious group, or even forum that you belong to that you take the time to visit and perhaps register on our site because we only want to bring people together no matter what their differences may be... It is our hope that this will create productive dialogue that will involve everyone as we simply cannot let the future of Guyana be determined by a few individuals who may or may not have the country's best wishes as heart... As a sign of support for what we are trying to accomplish, I ask that you all consider joining so that we can demonstrate the spirit of unity that is needed to help heal our divided country... If we do not come together in some shape or form, than how can we expect the political leaders and the people of Guyana to do the same ?? We need to set an example and so, it is my hope and prayer that you simply join our site (you don't have to participate if you don't want to) as a simply means of showing unity ... Finally I wish to thank the moderators of this forum for their patience with me .... |
