From The Religion Issues Post

A question came to mind after reading the Religion Issues post...

I was watching a commercial on TV the other day, it was a commercial with different religious leaders... a pastor, a Rabbi and an Imam. It was a commercial encouraging people to talk things out and a good place to turn to is a religious leader when you have a problem. I also worked on something called an Interfaith Council a few years back when i used to work at the Board of Education... It was basically a council of different religious leaders and they would use this to reach the community...

My question is when you have interfaith councils such as this, isn't it kind of compromising your beliefs when working with people of other religions... When i was a christian, i was taught to believe that Christianity is the only way to heaven and Jesus is the only way and light... When you work with other leaders who believe differently, isnt that allowing their word to go out there and reinforcing the idea that it is ok to accept other teachings. Isnt it in a way promoting other religions when they see a Minister sitting next to a Rabbi (who as you all know believes Jesus is not the saviour)...

That is a question that i have had for the longest

Regardless as to whether we choose to admit it or not, we all serve the same God. We may have different beliefs on what he wants us to do and how he wants us to go about that, but if we all take the position that we should come together to seek 'good'...where's the harm in that?

I don't see any problem in people of different religions working toward a common good.

Depends on how flexible your faith is. Many people are willing to compromise and realize that much of what their religions practice are man made and that they also have much in common.

I do not think his question was whether or not different religious leaders could or should come together for the greater good or not. I think he is asking whether or not the various religious leaders working together creates a perception to those of one faith (say Christians) that another faith is ok (say Jews). And I would say that their faiths are separate from the work they might be doing within the community ... but through this coming together these faiths are exposing their followers to other religions and alternate faiths and risk losing them all together.
