Rasta"s and Haile Selassie

I have some issues with rastafarians and thy're beliefs. Anyone whos rasta please dont be offended. But B4 I go into dat Lemme tell you dis. Last week at my job I meet a woman from Ethiopia, And she asked me if I was Jamaican.i told her no , Im from Antigua. I asked her if they are any Rastafarians in Ethiopia. I asked her because I know Haile was from there and I never seen a dred from ethiopia. She said yes but only a small portion....probaly like 5 %. So she was telling me how Ethiopians there could never understand why Jamaicans in particular worship Selassie when he killed his people even youngsters during his dictatorship. He did good but he did his dirt as well. I personaly will never worship a man. So now she tell me all the things he used to do in the past why do people feel the need to worship him? ?

Spiritual Thread Part II,Rastafariani Orishas, Santeria, Shango and Spiritual Baptist

History and Prophecy.

.....The birth of the movement of Rastafari can be officially fixed in Ethiopia during the coronation of the prince Ras Tafari Makonnen (Haile Selassie) on November 2, 1930. This was no ordinary event in Jamaica because a year earlier Marcus Mossiah Garvey had a prophetic vision, seeing a king be crowned in Africa.
After the coronation of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I (Power of the Trinity), several individuals searched the Bible for confirmation and found it in the Psalms: "A Prince shall come out of Egypt, and Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hand unto Jah". The prophecy was fullfilled and these people were the first Rastafarians.
Apart from carrying the legal title "King of Kings, Lord of Lords, conquering Lion of the tribe of Judah" that is written in Revelations, Haile Selassie is the 225th descendant of King Salomon, son of David, and the Queen of Sheba.

Many times people have asked what proof does Rastafarians have to point to Haile Selassie as our Savior. Look at Revelations 5 verse 5, Revelations 19 verse 16, Revelations 22 verse 16 and Psalms 87:4, Ezekiel 30, Epistle to Timothy, Revelation 19, 22, Psalms 9,18, 68, 76,and Isaiah 9.
When HIM returned from exile, in 1941, further proof was found in Revelations17:14. It is written that “ They shall make war with the lamb, and the lamb shall overcome them, for he is Lord of Lords and King of Kings and they that are with HIM are called and chosen and faithful”. So the Rastafarians of Jamaica must always be honored and praised as the vanguard of African resistance movement from which we must be entirely and eternally grateful....."

This probably can give some insight- this among some other influences. The war they refer to is the battle with Benito Musselini. If one believes in prophecy, the Rastafarian idea is logical to some extent, especially if you are insearch of an alternative to the "white Jesus" symbol. The percentage the Ethiopian woman referred to was probably those in Sheshemane. Their initial rejection by Sellasie also solidified their belief.

point taken. I'm just saying according to how one may interpret the so called bible prophecy, Rastafarianism is conceivable. you should also bear in mind that this is like you said - not debatable. I'm not making a case for Rastafari..I'm trying to explain it to you.

Jesus was definately no militant like Sellasie was. however if you read the bible and seen where it says" hand and feet of burnt brass, and hair like wool",then see pictures of a blue-eyed white male, with straight hair, it is likely that one may believe he is being decieved and seek the alternative. - cuz bottom line that what Rastafari really is ..

Yeah, but Selasise himself said Rastas were a confuesed people who had to come back to the fold of the Church. Remember, he was a devout christian and his divinity was against his religion.

Haile Selassie's attitude to the Rastafarians
Haile Selassie was never a member of the Rastafarian faith. During his lifetime, the Emperor was a devout member of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. His views towards the Rastafarians varied from polite interest to unsettled concern. The Emperor did not personally believe the divine claims made of him by the Rastafarians. When interviewed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Bill McNeil in 1967, Haile Selassie denied that a man could be an emanation from God.

The Rastas were never worried by Haile Selassie never claiming to be God, saying that the real God would never claim to be so just to get worldly acclaim and power. During the Emperor's visit to Jamaica, he told the Rastafarian community leaders that they should not emigrate to Ethiopia until they had liberated the people of Jamaica. After the visit, the Emperor is said to have told Ethiopian Orthodox Archbishop Abuna Yesehaq: "There is a problem in Jamaica… Please, help these people. They are misunderstanding, they do not understand our culture… They need a church to be established and you are chosen to go."

As a gesture of kindness to the Rastafarians and their aspirations of returning to Africa, the Emperor donated a piece of land at Shashamane, 250 km south of Addis Ababa for the use of Jamaican Rastafarians. There is still a community there.

all this is known.

...But like I said. The religion is an alternative (to Jesus) concept mixed with an interpretation of the so called prophecy. You would also have to understand the social condition at the time in Jamaica. Not listed in the quote above is the work of Leonard Howell who was you can say the first Rasta/theorist.

Here is a link with some information about the 12 tribes of Isreal's philosophy, its a long one but makes the clarification of H.I.M. a little more clear...from there you can make your call on if following the teachings of H.I.M. makes sense or not.

his standing against the italians on the battlefield and in the UN is one reason for the reverence, pride and dignity as no other African leader AT THAT TIME IN HISTORY was able to accomplish. You have to be able to understand the point of reference with the environment that existed then.

and his traced lineage to Solomon and David is the major link to the transliteration of Being the Son of God and therefore being God.

also please take a look at these 2 threads on the topic
what is Rastafarianism?
Ethiopians dont want Rastas coming back to Africa!
