Racist Logos
Does anyone feel offended when they see the picture of 'Uncle Ben' on packs of rice or 'Aunt Jemima' on pancake syrup?

Maybe I'm taking too many Black Studies classes...but 'uncle Ben reminds me of 'Uncle Tom' and aunt Jemima reminds me of a 'Mamie'.

The Aunt Jemina, etc. ting is offense
But honestly there are plenty of archetypal images of Blacks in the media (for women: the mamie...the harlot...the half/breed, etc. for men the effeminate, the fuck up etc.) ...So if you wanna start on it we can be offended by alot...let's talk about it... ![]() Let's GO! |

I'm offended but not pissed off or anything. Only reason why I don't take it on too much is cause we as blacks have so much more serious issues to deal with. Personally, I feel having most of those rappers I see on BET is more racist then having a racist logo because they fully justify racism towards blacks. I'm much more offended when I see T.V. shows and the media putting on rappers who are promoting gun violence and calling my black woman a b!tch then I would ever feel looking at an Aunt Jemima logo.

mistake 2 BET is for profit, same as MTV has the Osbornes, let us face until PBS becomes fortune 500 company, business will not take serious interest in social affairs |

Bet was dumbed down more as soon as Redstone with his Viacom bought BET from Robert Johnson..
and guess what happened..Tavis Smiley was fired..he was too serious about his people moving forward..so they let him go but PBS has picked him up..so things happen for a reason.. So essentially..VH1, MTV AND BET, MTV2, are all the same..kind of scary seeing that all of these big channels belong to one man.. |

Response to two: I really tired of hearing, oh MTV does it, PBS does it. Black people, face the fact that the world does not look at Beyonce the way they look at Britney Spears. They are never gonna look at 50 cent the same way they look at Marilyn Manson. Marilyn Manson in white media will always represent himself, no matter what he does. And the media will always push that Marilyn represents himself and no other white man. It's not like that for us, one man will represent the whole, especially a man in the media. It's not right, it's not fair but suck it up, that's how it is. Not even our own people see us as individuals all the time instead of as a group. So I really don't care about what MTV does to make profit, MTV don't have to deal with the same issues that BET has. BET needs to realize that by just having the name "Black Enterntainment Television", to the world, they are representing blacks. If they don't wanna represent blacks and just wanna make profit then somebody tell them to change their friggin name. But if u wanna be the "BLACK" entertainment television, then time for u to deal with issues that blacks face which coincidentally are social affairs. It's time for u to put up entertainers that Blacks can not only enjoy but respect as being their entertainers. Not these low morale, disrespectful and just shameless blacks we have on T.V. now. I thank god everyday that Malcolm X and Marcus Garvey are not alive cuz god knows if they were alive to see this nonsense, they would cry themselves to sleep every night.
