PETA’s analogy
What do you guys think about PETA’s analogy? These people are ridiculous
Excerpts: Africans captured and forced into slavery were often compared to animals so as to somehow justify their treatment. They were called "brutes" and "beasts" because of the color of their skin. Their lives were considered expendable, and many died at the hands of their oppressors. The same oppressive mentality behind those actions leads to the slaughter of animals today. Beatings, lynching’s, burnings: These cruel acts happen today just as in the past, only the victims have changed. Cattle and horses are branded with hot irons to mark them as property; elephants used in circuses are captured from their homelands, and then beaten with metal "bullhooks" and baseball bats. Cows, chickens, and pigs are strung upside-down before their throats are slit. Many animals are beaten, kicked, and spat upon by farm and slaughterhouse workers who view them as objects of scorn, not as frightened individuals. http://peta.org/animalliberation/nat...anGenocide.asp |

This is both kinda old and very new.
1) a furor was raised over this over a year ago, as PETA had been going public with this campaign as a 40-odd city tour last spring. They eventually halted the tour under pressure.... 2) however, these assholes are still promoting this on their website? Furthermore, first they tried to compare the situation of animals to the Jewish Holocaust in 2003. Under severe pressure (of course), they halted that campaign and apologized. Then, in 2k5 they tried the African Holocaust approach and were met with similar pressure; they halted the campaign but didn't issue an apology. Now we see they have moved along to comparison with the indigenous/native Americans. So now in 2k6, while the comparisons to the African Holocaust, Native American Holocaust, Women's rights and children's welfare are still being promoted on their website, the comparison to the Jewish Holocaust is completely absent. Gee, I wonder why? |
