orwell rolls in his grave

(shitty quality - worth downloading the torrent below)

just saw this film last night

it's about how the American media has gone from being run by 50 corporations to just 6 and how this limits the ideas/ news in modern society

it parallels 1984 to show how Orwell's visions have been realised

it's sick - everyone should see it

I think what is wrong there is that the problem has just gotten worse. US media, particualrly the more respecyed ones have always been guilty of representing corporate interests. Investigative journalism has had a relatively high standard but the interests of the trans-national corporations and business elite has always held sway. How do you think suport was drummed up for the Spanish-American War in 1898? Hearst and Pulitzer who were the major media figures back then had their editors manipulate stories to force the president to engage in military action against Spain even though at least one reporter and sketch artist who was reporting from Cuba complained that there were no atrocites, no military build up or anything to indicate Spain was preparing for war or was responsible for the sinkingof the USS Maine.

If you look at the actions of the press in 1950s with regard to the Arbenz administration in Guatemala and the Mossadegh adminstration in Iran, same thing. In all these cases, it was in the service of the interests of the US and British business elite. It's just that now the top of the pyramid is getting smaller
