Jamaican Political Battle for the City of Miramar, Florida
Well people:
The Jamaicans put up a good fight to retain their positions on the Miramar City Commission. There was a SWARM of candidates that appeared from no where to challenge them. What was interesting about this campaign, was that they ran for re-election as a Block-------every time they appeared on the radio, they would point out to the listeners that they were not running against each other. They also held joint fundraising appearances at the same venue. HERE ARE THE RESULTS: WINSTON BARNES (heard daily on WAVS radio) 49% of the votes, beating out 4 other opponenents with 3,272 votes. FITZROY SALESMAN 43% of the votes, beating out 3 other opponents with 2,898 votes. GEORGE PEDLAR 34% of the votes or 2,297. He ran against 3 opponents..........HOWEVER the other guy got 2,610. We hope there will be a run-off election to give the Brotherman another chance. |
