Its about that time again to look for a major and career study. The only problem is, I know what I want to do, however I don't know what career it falls under, what college courses I need, what title it falls under!!!!, basically the necessary parts, I don't have. My biggest thing is giving back to the Caribbean community. I would love to work for any Caribbean organization that's commited to the improvement of Caribbean people all over. If you know of any careers that intitle this or any majors necessary... PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!!!

Its a lot of work though, patience and plenty vacation time is the only thing that would save you from going insane in that field of work. and oh yeah love of teaching the youth

I heard it can be rewarding. Do you teach, and if so, how do you like it?? I mean, I see some kids who wish for a brief moment that they were yours so you could grab them up and just... Never mind... I am interested though!

Left for years ago for better opportunity. Taught math in the Bronx, JHS. I miss it though. It took up a lot of my energy so when those long breaks came along, i needed it. most people think its a regular 9-5 that u just show up for. but there is a lot of preparation involved. but it is rewarding, i dont think there is another profession as rewarding as teaching. the kids are not the problems u really deal with its the administators and no good parents.

Look for a school that has a strong Africana or Caribbean Studies program as suggested. You may want to look into a couple of the UWI schools, if not for admission there, to try and get references to NYC area (or wherever you are) schools that may have a focus on Caribbean studies. |

Sounds like you really enjoyed teaching. I would have to learn to breathe and not loose it before I think of teaching. But I do like the fact that I can help a child... I have one more profession to add to my list... THANKS Nygee
Bake n Shark- I looked at some school's Aricana and Caribbean studies class description, and they really hit it on the nail with what I want to do. Not many schools have that course i've noticed. And the few that do, cost almost $35,000 !!! I went to a college fair yesterday at the Jacob Javitz Center, and those were tha prices they came up with. I was like wow! Tha's my future down payment on a house!!!! |

I love your passion.. thats a beautiful quality in people.. I would suggest majoring and minoring in 2 subjects and maybe picking aup certificates.. ie. major business management(your own boss) this course teaches you about how to run any business and minor in socioloy( the study of people) and take some classes and get certified in real estate and taxes.. and then council our people about financial investments, put our people into their own homes, and help our people to understand DEBTMANAGENT.. it may take a couple of years to build an company of this sort but the out come will be well deseved
