I am mixed with....
Okay.. this (where the link is directed) is suppose to be a messageboard reviewing parties. It started to become a "push your party before" board and then it turned into a Passa Passa because people started making dumb comments about what type of people attend what type of parties.
http://pub.alxnet.com/guestbook?id=2154112 This leads me to another board which is trini based and they also had the discussion on race issues. (i can't find the link for that one but I'm still seraching) Do you think that racial tensions are really high in the islands? Do other groups just use this so that they can consider themselves the "elites"? ** I may have all my thought jumbled up here but I just need to see what reactions people may have to the responses in that guestbook** |

well in Guyana it is. Between de coolie people and black people. This stemmed from a politician. However it's sad because due to this the country is in the mess it in now. No unity. The coolie poeple think they are better than the black people. Anyway they r the rich ones.

racial division is rampant in trinidad though most people try to downplay it.
afro trinidadians dontreceive the same opportunities as white trinidadians do and that is a fact. it isnt as bad as the divisions in the US and England, but bad nonetheless. the 'i am better than you are' idea has been passed on for centuries, and i dont think that is gonna stop anytime soon. people just have to learn to accept what they cant change and try to use it to thier advantage. |

Racism, based on the complexion of your skin or ethnic background, will stay with us until...
As the previous posters have mentioned, Guyana and Trinidad have their racial problems. I am sure that issue can be found, maybe not as widespread or as publicized, in other nations in the region. In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, I like to think that it has more to do with class rather than the complexion of your skin. However, others might say otherwise. Race will always be an issue, because our colonial oppressors made sure that that it was used as a way to keep us divided and unbalanced. In other words, as the late great Bob Marley said, “emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our mind.” The question now is, how far along are we in our quest to remove the mental slavery from our being? |
