Guyanese baritone needs a job and support to pursue his musical training

(Photo courtesy of Paul Cort) A true son of the soil is back in Guyana after creating waves in the United States as well as Europe with his musical talent. However, his full potential is on hold because of financial commitments in the area of $10M. Paul Winfield Cort, an easy-going 27 year-old said that he had returned here last July after earning a degree in music from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, USA. "I have been quite bored since my return here, because there are no jobs in my field. I know there is a need but there've been no advertisements as such." Five years ago, the word 'bored' would not have had any room in Cort's vocabulary, not at all. At that time, he was all set to embark on an adventure that would take him to Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota to pursue a teaching degree. The young baritone said that his interest in music began to take root at the age of six, and by the time he had attained the age of 20, he had done several onstage performances as a choir member as well as a soloist. In addition to practical lessons, Cort said that he also had the opportunity to be trained by the late, great, Edith Pieters. "To be honest, in the beginning I was much more fascinated with learning how to play the piano than sing," he said. more info at http://jonoguyana.blogspot.com/2006/...s-job-and.html |
