Essence of Blackness...
I remember one day at work with my boss we was speaking to some other staff.. And I had a question to ask and figured to myself that I would ask the person that probably would have the best answer since that was their area of expertise.. However, afterwards my boss pulls me aside, elder Black Lady, and asked me if I think Black people is stupid.. *Background info, she was the type of women to think that in the office all "white people" are against you and up to no good. She came from a time where she was the only black person in the office and had to endure alot of hard battles.*
So knowing this I simply said no. I just asked the person to which I thought had the more relevant information to contribute.. Her question DID get me to start thinking though.. Is there an underlying subculture to think that my own people are less smart. Is there some type of brainwashing that happens where you will not support your blackness but instead chose others just because.. Let me know your thoughts on this. I will provide more examples of such behavior in a few.. ![]() |

I find that alot of Africans feel they are more intelligent than African Americans. That some West Indians feels they are more intelligent than African Americans. That plenty of African Americans from the north feel they are more intelligent than African Americans raised in the south.

Re: Re: Essence of Blackness...
I had a group discussion the other day about Black ppl in the workplace (in terms of whose more pleasant to work with or get service from). You'd be surprised to hear that everyone there basically said that they would much rather go to a store with all white people b/c they get better service. I mean i dont neccessarily feel that way, i think it depends on the store. For example i live in a prodominately black area and there is a McDonalds near, and it gets really crazy in there, on some days u can find ppl playing board games, sitting on the tables and causeing much commotion. where as in the neighborhood where i go to school (which is predominately Jewish) you would never see something like that. The customer service is a little better too, but like i said, its only some places. |

I personally believe that it depends on the individual and how they were brought up. I have a friend that says that she would never work for an immigrant, meanwhile her parents and the majority of her friends are immigrants. Then I have other friends that would never ask a white person anything. Then...there are the "others" that don't really have any set perception in their heads, they just ask who they want to ask, what they want to ask and have no gripe about it. But because there is so much racism today, they start to believe that their actions are based on racism when in fact they really aren't.
In this case, I don't think your intentions were for you to be racist, and I don't think you asking a "non-black" person the question was wrong. I think you just wanted accurate information and you went to the person that would provide that since that was the area they specialized in. In fact, if you didn't feel funny approaching the "non-black" person and no color was in your mind while you were asking, that shows a lot. Your "boss" on the other hand, her question was a racist one. **Think about this! To claim racelessness is in itself racism. Also, think about these two things: 1. We will know that we are equal when the black idiot can enjoy the same equalities as the white idiot. 2. In order for the "white" superior to exist, the "black" subordinate is necessary. |
