British born Afri-Caribbeans

Greetings to all,

Do you all accept people identifing themselves as Caribbean, if they are born in the UK with Caribbean born parents?

If you have love for or some sentimental attachment to the Caribbean to the point that you are willing to help the region in any way, I would. I don't see this in any way different from some Native Africans accepting me as African though I was born and raised in the Caribbean

Well they are never going to be "Quintessentially British" are they? Of course they should associate with the Caribbean and all things Caribbean.

The only thing is "Afro Caribbean" Don´t like the sound of that term.

Now why is it that there is always so much reaction (bordering on schizophrenia) whenever someone mentions the use of such terms as Afri/Indo-Caribbean? Why must there be comments about someone who chooses to identify themselves according to their ancestry as well as region of origin? And if it is that you choose not to, do you have to resort to snide remarks like “all dat afro caribbean shite”? do you hear the same things about people who identify themselves as Irish-American, Italian-American and so on?

Yet we claim that we are more enlightened than our parents, we live in an “Information” or “Digital” Age.
