RE: testing
Hotep[peace]
Speaking for the situation in Trinidad, I think one of the main reasons is the lack of confidence we have in ourselves. Historically we have always been socialised to look outside for models of success and view "we ting" as nothing worthy of the world stage [not that it was originally meant to be commercialised]. So it is no wonder that most of the calypso and soca artistes had to seek their fortunes outside while at home there is little exposure on the radio outside of "carnival season". I often compare the support shown to reggae and its offspring by the Jamaicans with the cavalier, almost indifferent attitude to calypso and soca by most Trinis. If we could absorb half of the pride shown by Jamaicans, there would be no need to have the Baha men [all respect to them]or anyone else doing a remake.
