Australian “lynch mobs”

This is an article based on the events that occurred in Australia recently (see http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4522326.stm for reference on riots). The article was written by Margaret Kimberly and she examines the history of Australia in an attempt to have a better understanding of what transpired “down under”. Interesting article.

The author discusses the fact that the country was a place where Britain dumped all of its “undesirables” i.e. murderers, thieves, etc. These are the European settlers that came to this region and began their genocide of the so-called “Aboriginal” population. I am reminded of a book I read entitled, “Massacres to Mining: The Colonization of Aboriginal Australia” by Jan Roberts http://www.vaccines.plus.com/Jan-CV-updated.html where accounts were made of activities such as burying “aboriginal” babies in the ground with only their heads above ground, then the Europeans would takes turns kicking their heads off to see who could kick a head further. Now we can understand why it is easy for riots of this nature as this to occur.

Excerpts:
"Come to Cronulla this weekend to take revenge. This Sunday every Aussie in the Shire get down to North Cronulla to support the Leb and wog bashing day
…"– Australian talk radio.

This history lesson is needed in order to understand the rioting that occurred recently in Sydney, Australia. A rumor that Arabs had punched a white lifeguard in the nose sent the laid back white Aussies into a frenzy. Encouraged by hate speech on radio stations and text messaging from white supremacists, they set aside a day to act upon their outrage. A mob of 5,000 Aussie red necks went on a rampage at a beach near Sydney. They set upon anyone Middle Eastern looking and assaulted even white police officers who stood in the way of their good time.

Blaming the violence on 'thieves and murderers dumped in Australia' and not just British colonialism would be innacurate. Many of the people sent to Australia were the poorest British and were sent to do hard labor for the high crimes of stealing food and what not to survive. Not just murder or any major crimes.

I am not sure that this was my intention. Yes, it is true that this included the British poor. The correlation made is more so with regard to the current riots and the racism that existed then within the framework of British Colonialism which displayed itself in the horrendous acts as I described. It is the psyche that serves as the catalyst to drive riots based on something so fickle that I am concerned with.
