Question Asbestos Trust Fund

I just got this in an e-mail what do you guys think about this?

The titles of the e-mail was tell Schumer (for the non-NYS people he's one of our Senators) no to Asbestos Trust Fund

Dear Concerned Citizen,

New Yorkers have very serious reasons to be concerned about the asbestos trust fund bill currently being discussed in the U.S. Senate. Many people may have been exposed to asbestos dust during and after the 9/11 disaster, by working or living near asbestos-contaminated sites and by living in homes where asbestos may still exist in fireproofing and insulation. Current victims and those who contract an asbestos-related disease, perhaps 20-40 years from now, may have their rights taken away while companies that concealed the harmful effects of asbestos will be bailed out. Senator Schumer is a key part of the debate as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and we need help telling him to say no to the asbestos trust fund.

W.R. Grace's "Weedsport facility" in Cayuga County is on a federal priority list because it processed asbestos-containing vermiculite from Libby, MT. W.R. Grace is the same company that was recently indicted for concealing the deadly nature of asbestos materials from its employees and the residents of Libby. W.R. Grace was not the only company keeping such deadly secrets and, as a result, we have millions of asbestos victims today suffering from a myriad of diseases. The proposed legislation would force these victims into a massive and bureaucratic trust fund that will likely become overwhelmed and eventually fail, leaving victims and their loved ones hopeless. I know their pain personally as my husband, Congressman Bruce Vento, died from mesothelioma.

The millions of emergency workers, residents and commuters who were exposed to the dust that was blown throughout the city for days after 9/11 and remained around the site for months, are at risk. Should any of these individuals contract a disease years from now, they would not be covered by Senator Specter's trust fund legislation because of an arbitrary date set for filing a claim.

Current and future asbestos victims need your help.

Thank you.
