The National Center of Women and Policing says less then 15 percent of the police in the U.S. are women, and brutality by women cops is far less frequent than by their male counterparts. So wouldn't having an all-chick force kick butt? Not really, says kathleen Kiernan of www.sameshield.com, an online resource for female officers. "If you want to have an organization that meets the needs of a diverse society, you can't limit by gender, race, etc. It's better to have specialized units within the general station. It's not necessary to have all-female forces," Kathleen sys. But that hasn't stopped the world from trying.

*1992*- The Indian state of Tamil Nadu introduces its first All-WOMEN Police Station (AWPS) so victims of sexual harassment, abuse and sex trafficking have a safe place to go.

*1998*- Femake officers replace most make traffic police in Lima, Peru. The rationale: Women cops are less likely to be corrupt and accpet bribes. (Weirdly they're required to wear pearl earrings and lipstick when in uniform)

*1999*-Mexico city gives 32 two-women teams the sole power to write tickets. Male officers complain that they've lost authority and it takes too long to call in a female team. The program is scrapped a few months later.

*2002*- lima's female traffic cops are spit on, threatened, punched and run over by male drivers. Ninety percent of the reported cases of abuse of officers in the first half of the year are against women. (An official at the Peruvian consulate says the situation is now "much improved" and doesn't elaborate!
