African Voices Hosts Writers Conference on Memoir Writing in Harlem

On Sunday, December 4, from 11:30 am-5:30 pm, African Voices will present a forum on writing memoirs and biographies at the 6th Annual Cultural Circle Conference. The Circle's theme "Telling Your Story to the World: Memoir Writing & Self Portraits in Art" will offer writers a chance to explore the art of creating intimate portraits and historical works. Authors Herb Boyd (Pound for Pound: A Biography of Sugar Ray Robinson), asha bandele (The Prisoner's Wife), Sharon Robinson (Promises to Keep: How Jackie Robinson Changed America) and Malaika Adero, the editor of Atria Books, will share their writing and publishing experiences. The conference will include a memoir writing workshop, art exhibition and book signing reception for asha bandele, the author of The Subtle Art of Breathing. The program will be held at the National Black Theater, 2031 Fifth Ave. (125th Street & 5th Ave.). Registration: $15.
