UK Soca Scene

Now, to all of you who are unfamiliar with the UK Soca Scene, believe me, you are lucky!

Not sure how it is where you are, but over here everyone wants to be a DJ, everyone wants to be a promoter and everyone wants to have a fete on the same night!

I've decided that I am not going to go to any fetes any more - only Cork's on a thursday. No one else needs my hard earned money if they are going to treat their paying patrons so terribly.

Last night I went to a fete and wait outside so long to get in. When I eventually got in - the fete was empty. I was . I thought I should write the promoter a little note over fb and here it is:

Just a "short" message to let you know what I thought of your "Free" Soca Party.

First, I am employed on a full time basis, so it was no problem for me to pay. So why then did you keep everyone outside for so long? Lots of people got there on time to make sure that they would get in before 12, but instead a directive was issued which meant that paying customers were keep outside longer than was absolutely necessary. On the other hand, you came to the gates on a few occassions let in your friends. To me your behaviour was completely disrespectful.

To have people queuing outside as though they were cattle. Unfortunately, I couldn't leave as I was out-voted - the people I came with wanted to stay.

I think you have some bad business practises that need to be eradicated.

Everyone has to make their money some way or other, so why not charge a fee of £5 before 12 so that there is no disappointment. If this continues, I believe that eventually, you'll get a reputation for being a crook. I am not sure about you, but I wouldn't want that "dagger" hanging over my head at such a young age.

So, I reach inside the club which was half-empty (I am normally an optimist), and there was no vibe.

You really should sort yourself out. As a promoter you are using some very dodgy practises which I don't think you should continue to use.

I think you should also be aware, that as the promoter of the event at Tudor Rose, it's your responsibilty to ensure that all of the security personnel who are employed on the night and are engaging in licensable activities, should display their SIA license cards at all times in order to be compliant with the law - evidence shows that this was not the case and perhaps some were working "illegally" which means that you as the promoter was acting outside of the remits of the law. You should address this also.

Thanks for an enjoyable wait outside, but I'll not be patroning one of your events ever again.

Just so you know... ignore anything that is promoted by Alpo R.

People who are as disrepectful and uses the same bad practises most certainly do NOT need my hard and HONESTLY earned money.

I am just venting

this isn't isolated to just London- this is everywhere
at least you take your soca somewhat seriously over dey
in NYC, DC, or ATL most patrons treat it like a battered step child- it's only there when they want it or need it and play dancehall or hip hop music most of the time instead because every sound only cares about $$$, pu$$y, drugs or their own personal gain instead of letting the music breathe, supporting the artists who create the music that they are playing, and furthering the progression of soca to the world and outside of their relative typical crowds or comfort zones

two solutions: stay out of weekly club nights and save your money for big fetes and carnivals and trips- that way you place your resources where they will be most best spent
