The correct term is Waladli which later became pronounced Wadadli by modern Antiguans. Waladli/Wadadli is the name given by the Arawaks prior to Christopher Columbus calling it "Antigua". Waladli/Wadadli means "land of oil" (fish oil or eucalyptus oil)

As for the term garrat...it is a controversial term and if u ask 100 people u will get 100 different answers as to what it means. All i know for sure is that most antiguans say is a term used by Kittians in reference to Antiguans (supposedly in a derogatory way)..this I've heard has sumting to do wid labor disputes between antiguans and the British land owners at the time (late 1800's). However, I've heard a dozen different supposed meanings of the word. I can say that the term itself is not used very in Antigua from what I see (although soca artist Edi Melo did have a chune from 2002 called "Garrat Bounce"). We on imix used garrat often as a term of endearment.
