What Happened to ABC Aftershool Specials?

They used to be really creepy but they kept me aware.

It doesn't seem there are many shows out there that alert children to the danger in this world anymore.

I LOVED THOSE AFTER SCHOOL SPECIALS: Say No to Drugs, What about your Friends, Anorexia, Say no To guns, Teenage pregnancy... You're right, are there any shows for kids?? I tell me cousin to watch LIFETIME with her daughter because they tackle some touchy issues with some great movies...

Its sad but nowadays children are faced with far more dangers than we,those between 25-30 or more had to. Society is more interested and more attention is focused on wars and other political agendas than our children.

On a whole cartoons and television oriented toward children has changed, shows like Sesame Street and even Thunder Cats have now beenn replaced by shows where most of the content is graphic

almost half of Lifetime movies are manhating machines. But the majority are some really good stuff.

But I want to see Human Trafficking tonight though.

Some, I say most, I feel lifetime is run by a angry lesbian who sits on the GLAAD board of Directors

Stop you sound just like my male friend. You give him a topic and he'll make it out into a Lifetime movie with Meredith Baxter Birney or Valarie B as the lead and Nancy McKeon in the supporting cast.

The only thing I see that may come close to an afterschool special is Degrassi: The Next Generation. Those kids have some serious issues that makes me and my child tune in every week.

The show has dealt with: teen pregnancy, self abuse (cutting), school shootings, oral sex, drug abuse, cancer, self hate, STDs, etc.

They gave up on the next generation. Were kids getting too rotten so they said 'what the hell'? Or maybe we can blame today's rotten youth on the fact that there are no afterschool specials to guide them. Hmmm...
