    Question VINCENTIANS who think that we should "vote yes"

    can u guys give me reasons to why we should "vote yes"? I am not yet disputing against this, however i am skeptical. I would like for evidence from the new constitution to teamed with your reasons. I have started browsing through it and as far as i have reached, it seems to be 237 pages of nothing, but i am willing to listen and understand.

    @THE HIGHLIGHTED

    THE NEW CONSTITUTION is a SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT on the OLD one, so there is NO DOUBT that VINCENTIANS SHOULD VOTE YES

    are you serious?

    as a progressive person (I assume) you've read the proposed constitution and regard it as 237 pages of NOTHING? a document that at the very base is about the reform of

    1. our electoral system

    2. certain aspects of our legal system

    and

    3. that actually works to the benefit of the nation????

    surely you jest

    but maybe I'm not the one to talk about this. The fact that I was actually there during the development stages could be perceived as biased. It's quite hysterical though, that many members of the other side are for constitutional reforms but as these things go...they are there to 'oppose' and that they WILL do

    anyways just a few points

    The old Constitution:

    1. Has the Privy Council (UK) as the final arbiter of Justice. I am of the belief that this is bullshit. While you may argue that this allows for an 'unbiased' approach to cases you must also bear in mind that these people are NOT from the Caribbean, they DO NOT identify with our experiences, they tend to be more LIBERAL than we are and so their POV would differ greatly from ours...which is not necessarily a good thing. Example...the death penalty is not on the books in the UK. Ask yourself why Compay is still in prison. Ask yourself why that fella that beheaded that girl in Kingstown may at the very least spend the rest of his life in prison (mind you if he lives longer than 70 years he gets out)

    and with that point in mind:

    The new Constitution proposes to replace the Privy Council with the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ). Now this is a very obvious break with our colonial past. We no longer have 'massa' having the last word on our cases for us. Are we not capable enough to trust in a system that we have signed on to through a mechanism of CARICOM? Or are we going to continue to further the ideology that 'if it not from foreign it nah good'? That as in Independent nation we still have to run to the white man for everything?
