Do people get a sense that you're from the states by the way you look? I notice that whenever I visit BIM or Jamaica. There is something about you that makes them know you're from America.

Do people beg from you since you're from the states?

Tobago - People in south of Tobago are more citylike but stick to their Tobagonian culture, They have the Tobagonian accent but I find its closer to Trinidad accent than the North and More Rural areas. Tourism is strong here in areas like Crown Point and Scarborough. There are alot of Trinis who live in these areas and thats maybe why I think that Tobagonians in this area sound more like Trinis in accent.

North Tobago/Rural - More rural/ Fishing is bigger in this area with less tourism focused here. Charlotteville is the classic rural area in Tobago and the accent here is even closer to Jamaicans than Trinis. Some claim there is alot of incest here but I dont know.

People know you are from the states by the complexion of your skin, people claim that people from the states when they reach their skin has this different texture before the sun hits it. I could definitely tell a Yankee by the way they dress and walk. Yankees have a way they does walk.

Opti when you visit T&T try and experience different parts of the coutry to get general perspective. Unlike other islands you dont have to stay in the capital or main city to have fun..there are malls ,clubs, festivals, nightlife at various towns in the country..Tobago has the tourist beaches..Maracas beach in T&T is really just popular for de lime..the most popular mall in T&T is not even in the main city, neither the pitch lake..so you really have to venture out throughout both islands for a full experience

Boy, I tell you.

When I reach Jamaica, I saw people just stare at me. It's like they know I don't live there. I don't even open my mouth for them to hear me. Next thing you know they coming to beg you a 10 dollar.

Barbados does gwan that way too sometimes.

Yeah, I try to visit the parts that don't get a lot of tourist exposure.

I don't think that's the way to practice tourism.

You have to visit the whole country.

True Because of Tobago's location the beaches are better esp for swimming on the Western side, Trinidad is located very close to the mouth of the Orinoco river so the beaches on the West and South of the island is silt washed so there is little coral growth because of low salinity and the water is not really clear and pretty. I call the gulf of Paria, a huge lake. There are beautiful beaches in the North and East Trinidad, but they are very rough. There are some pretty beaches that you have to hike to but alot of Trinis are too lazy to do that.

I dont know if they will beg you but they will probably hike up prices or try to rob you so dont try to be so open about taking out money all over and if a car ride costs a certain price for locals, smart men will def hike the price when they hear your Yankee accent.

personally i find this is a kind of redundant question because it is obvious that in EVERY country there are people who have diferent lifestyles but for argument's sake i will answer

there are social trinis- those that go to certain schools, live in certain neighborhoods, work generally in port of spain, vacation abroad.. most of their children go abroad to college, wouldnt be caught dead in or near the "ghetto"... wouldnt go to a party where high numbers of "raggamuffin" trinididans would attend.. prefer to socialize where people of a certain class, and upbringing would frequent.. some are said to talk with an accent.. children have a driver to take them to and from school, there's "help" around the house in the form of a gardener, maid, housekeeper, nanny.. etc..

there is the regular trini - not super rich, but not dirt poor either.. middle class, can be found along the east west corridor, north south corridor... will go wherever he/she feels to go.. may not like hanging with stoosh people or raggamuffins.. works anywhere the job puts him to work. south north east or west.. can recognize rich and poor.. is just the average every day trinidadian... same as the average american/jamaican/whathave you.. Joe Trini is everywehre.. just tryin to live the trinidadian dream of working, having fun and living life to the fullest..

The raggamuffin trini- tries hard to follow the badboy aspects of other cultures- wants to be in everything that other groups dont want him in.. some may endorse fads that are long gone (gold teeth, Clench shirts, one pants leg roll up etc...), carry weaponry (in some form or fashion- icepick, cutlass, gun, knife, you name it.. they can whip one out on you in a heartbeat), will fight and cause a scene anywhere they feel "disrespected"...females may look like the regular "hoodrat" to be found anywhere else.. people usually attribute women wearing visible amounts of baby powder in the neck area to this group..

any race can be in the various groups..

I like your assessment but I was trying to do it by general geographic areas I know it varies but I was just generalizing.

Yes, and it is heavily socioeconomic based. Some parts are more impoverished than others, but there are wealthy living among the poor and the poor among the wealthy. There are poor Trinidadians in the main city of POS and wealthy Trinidadians living in "de bush"/rural Trinidad.

As of late gated communities have become the norm and does help seclude certain classes of Trinidadians from outsiders. It has helped keep the ragamuffins out.

Not necessarily. I know that certain Trincity and Woodbrook hubs have become more of an upper middle class neighborhood. Millennium Park/Sunrise Park/Trincity Golf Course and One Woodbrook Place, for instance, are some examples.

Regular folks working in the public sector cannot afford to live in these places.

I know what you are saying, none of what I said is a hard and fast rule, read all my previous posts carefully. What you are saying is true.
