Spinoff: Serious Talk...Personal Beliefs and Relationships

In light of the thread that Swerve made...it's evident that some people believe in God and the Bible...others don't...how does this affect your relationship choices?

I personally won't entertain the thought of dating a man who does not believe in God...there are probably many things I would let slide...age...height...etc...but that is one thing I refuse to compromise on even if he may appear to be a 'good' man.

    Speak on it

frankly, i couldn't date an atheist simply because many of their beliefs are way too cynical for me to even entertain and we'd probably argue all day. on the flip side, i'm not about to date a holy roller either because they would get on my damn nerves and would most likely write me off as being a heathen. lol

    Cool

Religion aside, it just makes sense to find someone who has similar beliefs.
Can two walk together less they be agreed?

well give de chapter and verse nah

but i agree with you...there has to be similarity in beliefs and goals (religion) aside

lack of that commonality would lead to too much conflict and chaos within the relationship

Yea set up two friends 1 SDA the other Jehovah witness or summin else.
Forgot about the religion thing...they were a good match till that ....they remain good friends but relationship couldn't work cos neither could/would budge on those issues and the fundamental differences in the way their churches explained certain things.

A pity but a so it guh

I'm OK with a balanced person...
when I think Fanatics..they are looking to impose their will and preach every day to you.

I'll date a Church goer with no problem..as long as she leaves me alone, and I think thats the majority of people.

BTW ..Im not an athiest. figure i'd throw that out there.

Compatibility is key. So religion, ambition, culture etc. All these things can and do matter - some to a greater degree than others in many instances.

as the forum atheist and minority(most people are not atheists)
    I will chime in.

Especially since I probably have been in this situation more than most of you.

finding an atheist to date would be an exercise in futility

that being said, I expect women i date to believe in the supernatural on some level or another.

    cest la vie.
not much I can do aboutthat so i dont complain
I usually deal with it by not bringing up the subject or discussing it unless they do
once in a while ill meet a woman that curious about non belief and is starting to discover the emperer has no clothes.
    I happily indulge them....

I doh see that as a pity, but a damn good thing. Why waste time and energy on something that obviously gonna cause problems later on?

This applies to culture and other lifestyles...sometimes the couple can "work" around it but problems really rare their head when children come into the picture. On person wha raise d child dis way and d next one wha do something else. Had those two idiots talked about that from the getgo, they wunda be in d situation now.
