Gays Claim Disrespect At Airport By Soca Star | Entertainment Macco
We learned that on Saturday, 25 February 2012, two men, Gucci and Prada, accompanied by soca star Esther Dyer (sister to one of the men) were at Piarco International Airport waiting to board an aircraft to Tobago when they were harassed because of their sexual orientation. Allegedly Fayann Lyons Alvarez verbally abused and chastised Gucci and Prada, who, according to our sources, ignored the insults but were clearly annoyed. The men decided to take the issue up with Fayann via Twitter. Since then there has been a verbal battle between the primary parties and others who have chosen to buy into the cyberfight.
Things have taken a legal turn as the Alvarez couple retained legal counsel and served Gucci, Prada, and Esther Dyer with preaction protocol letters for defamation of character, which stemmed from an alleged BBM broadcast that questioned the paternity of their daughter and the sexuality of Bunji Garlin. We are told the preaction letters call on Dyer, Gucci, and Prada to apologize personally, pay a substantial fee for damages as well as cover the legal fees incurred by the Alvarez couple; a deadline of 14 March 2012 has been set before “further action is taken.” Gucci, who is a US citizen, has also retained counsel.
While both Gucci and Prada have stated repeatedly via Twitter that Bunji is not guilty of any ill doing, he did not insult them or slur sexist comments towards them. We also wonder how Esther Dyer got mixed up in this mess; she has been very quiet throughout the Twitter war and has not publicly responded to any questions or comments in regard to this matter.
Entertainment Macco attempted to contact all parties involved and received this response from Ian Alvarez: “We took this matter to a legal stage therefore I cannot comment for now.” In a later phone conversation, Fayann Lyons Alvarez said the matter is being handled by the law, but she wanted to state for the record that she did not make any racist remarks or slurs to any of the parties involved. Esther Dyer, Gucci and Prada also responded stating that they were advised by there lawyers to not speak on the matter.
