I just wanted to let my family in on the Big Soca Awards that were held last night at The Arena.


The premise behind the awards was a very good one. It started on a high note and then things just started to go down hill. Of course we were on CP Time so the event started late and ended later.

It started off good Mc Wassy was very funny and announced the presenters to let the crowd know who was who. Of course there were the half naked trophy girls to present the award to the winners.

The confusion began when folks started to question how artists were nominated and how were the winners choosen. By the third award you knew how were the winners.

They were people who were suppose to be nominated for songs for 2002 but for the life of me i could understand how songs from this year were winners.

Can some one explain to me that of all of the bands in Trinidad how did Invasion and Clould IX get nominated for best Brass Band 2002?

The categories were just as confusing as some of the presenters who presented them. At one point people just start going backstage and just coming out to present an award over and over. I just want to know WHO ARE YOU?

Here are my highlights for the evening:

1. The 2 guys who performed first. (I don't know who you are and where you fit in)

2. Gailann and Benjai performing in Sign Language.(These two really are talented)

3. ONE MIC

4. Lovey Dress.

5. Mau Brothers performing spank it as if they were on BET uncut. Naked girls winning and them on stage singing there one song for 10 minutes.

6. Benjai collecting an award for Flo PG

7. Crazy for volunteering to paint Soca Arena ceiling if there is an award show next year.

8. The boos from the crowd when a certain presenter came on stage.(that was my personal favorite i know i am terrible)

9. The photographers who began taking pics of Ninja when they thought he was Bunji.

10. The red carpet.(you had to be there to appreciate it)

I would like to commend CJ on a great effort last night and hope he will be able to bring it to another level next year.

Yesterday was (very intresting) indeed.... I would like to know how those decisions were made... Senelle dempster winning best female artist. (Very interesting) Another shock was When Jason Benn Won for Best New York Artist without Pelf (very Intresting) There are other (Very intresting) issuses with some of the other awards " I will not comment on them at this point" All I can say is (very intresting)


I am not sure how they came to some of their decisions but," until these and other events, such as Soca Monarch, dealing with our music community are conducted fair on a non partisian, non friend view"." there will be no respect for the art form"
