So Panday in jail praying de bible now.

    By Yvonne Webb

Outspoken Seventh-day Adventist pastor Clive Dottin visited Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday at the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca yesterday and prayed with him.

Party chairman Wade Mark confirmed the visit yesterday.

Dottin could not be reached for comment yesterday evening, as he was preparing for today’s observance of the Sabbath.

However, Mark said Dottin was among a small group allowed to visit Panday on his fourth day in prison.

Among them were former Caricom ambassador Kamaluddin Mohammed, former House Speaker Dr Rupert Griffith, former Housing Minister John Humphrey and his wife Helen, Chaguanas mayor Suruj Rambachan, Panday’s wife Oma and Mark.

“There were a lot of people on the outside who were waiting to see him, but he is allowed only two visits per day,” Mark said.

He said Panday was spending his time doing a lot of reading.

“He has the Qu’ran, the Bible and the Ramayan,” Mark said.

“He did religious knowledge at O’levels and received a distinction. Since then, he has always wanted to read the Old Testament from cover to cover, and now has the opportunity to do so.”

He said the UNC had received police permission for the motorcade from Chaguanas to north Trinidad on Sunday, to mobilise support for Panday.

Regarding concerns raised about throngs of supporters who intend to flock to the Port-of-Spain Magistrates Court on Tuesday when Panday reappears to answer the charge of corruptly receiving £25,000 (approximately TT$290,000) from businessman Ish Galbaransingh and former UNC Minister Carlos John, Mark said citizens were free to come to Port-of-Spain.

On the invitation extended by party activist Jack Warner to rebels who caused the UNC to demit office to return, Mark was non-committal.

“People are free to speak. This is a democratic party,” he said.

“Jack was expressing a view which has come from within and without the party.

“We have always stood for national unity, inclusion and solidarity. There is only one common enemy, and that is the PNM.

“All forces, all citizens are welcome into the big house, into the mansion of the UNC.

    “There is room for everyone.”

    Cool

Mr. Panday is a great actor. He acting now to try and save his position in the party and cause as much division as he can to get people on his side. Why doesn't he just use his innocence (?) and his friends' lawyering skills to win his case... Unless he cyah win this thing in no other way but by using manipulation of the public.

From Day 1 this has been Panday's #1 weapon.

He is very skilled at this and can turn any negative thing on him as a "Im being victimized by the PNM, and Im for the people" It saddens Sando how blind some people are in TnT, some might say this thing is the end of Panday, not by a long shot...Its the begining of ugly and dark times in TnT.
