    No surprise here...Maringa was created by combining local melodies and rhythms with Trinidadian calypso and soca music. A lot of the music in Sierra Leone is imported or had major outside influence. Believe it or not, this type of music is dying out over there...hip hop and dancehall taking over. But yeah...Maringa wasn't just something they created out of nothing...the Trini influence is definitely there. If you want something a little more native to Sierra Leone, check out some Gumbe.
