    Senate authorizes force

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 — Moments before President Bush led a Day of Prayer service at the National Cathedral, the Senate on Friday authorized “all necessary and appropriate force” against terrorism and approved a $40 billion down payment for recovery and retaliation. The president, who also authorized calling up as many as 50,000 military reservists, planned to travel to New York City later in the day to support the rescue effort.

THE HOUSE was expected to quickly follow the unanimous Senate votes. The last time the Senate weighed military action — just before the Persian Gulf War — the vote was a bare majority, 51-47.
The $40 billion package — double what the president asked for — is considered just a down payment to fund recovery efforts and a military buildup.
At the Pentagon, presidential orders to activate up to 50,000 National Guard and military reservists were received Friday. The Pentagon said it would immediately call up 35,000 troops for what’s being called the “homeland defense” — manning support positions across the country. The United States has some 1.2 million National Guard and reservists.

    FOCUS ON BIN LADEN
The Bush administration has concluded, based on “overwhelming” evidence, that the al-Qaeda organization run by Osama bin Laden executed the attacks in which U.S. jetliners were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, government sources told NBC News’ Jim Miklaszewski.

Bin Laden, the exiled Saudi millionaire who has vowed to destroy the United States, lives and trains supporters in Afghanistan.
The Pentagon said U.S. retaliation for what are expected to be 5,000 or more deaths would be a “sustained” campaign, “not a single action.” Two U.S. aircraft carriers in the Arabian Peninsula region are already within striking distance, each carrying 75 bombers capable of launching long-range missiles.

    PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER, RESOLVE
The war footing comes as Bush urged Americans to observe a National Day of Prayer by attending a religious service during their lunch hour.
The president and first lady Laura Bush attended a noon service at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Joining them were past U.S. presidents and religious leaders representing Muslim, Jewish and Christian faiths.

On Thursday, Bush told reporters that allies around the world had vowed to help him “whip terrorism.”
Allowing his emotion to show through for a moment, the president fought back tears as he thought of the families destroyed by the tragedies.
Thousands of people are presumed to have died in Tuesday’s attack and a fourth hijacking that ended when the plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.
The spectacular explosions, which leveled the Trade Center’s twin towers and collapsed part of the Pentagon, represented the opening shots in what Bush described Thursday as “the first war of the 21st century.”
“This is now the focus of my administration ... now that war has been declared,” Bush said

    $40 billion ......

If Bush is so angellic as he makes himself out to be, why not kill these people with love and show them. For example, Afghanistan is among the poorest nations on that side of the world, why not give aid to their countries poverty instead. Instead of USA revenge tactics, why not feed the starving people of Africa, India, Mexico. These are your American tax dollars he is spending, Instead of bombing a whole country just for revenge sake, why not go into these countries and liberate them, get them established a new govt. and educate them instead of killing them.
