People With Dreads, and That Smell !

I have a question, what do some people put in their hair, that gives it that old smell ? I asked this one girl with dreads and she told me it was some type of oil, but I dunno, can someone tell me?

that smell you're probably talking about is the smell of dirt. Dirt is what holds the locks together!...and I learned this the hard way. My friend used to have dreads and when he decided to cut them a whole bunch of us were there and we all helped him cut them.....so i took one after he had already cut them off and cut that in half to only find the middle of the dread was grey and filled with dirt!!...boy that was fun!

Uhmm dirt is what held YOUR friends hair together but not mine. I wash my hair every 2 weeks steam and everything. I scrub my locks like i'm washing clothes. That scent that Phuc u mon is talking about is from sweat. i smell it in peoples hair sometimes and thats why i make it a habbit to cleans my hair on a regular basis because i don't want my hair smelling like that.

Amen, my sister takes care of mine so she does the washin and the twisting, and washes it like clothes as well, i dont wash them every two weeks cuz my hair is very soft so when ever water touches it they loose out, so i gotta do it every month. But during the month i put oils in it to keep it smellin fresh and keep them shinin.

I'm not sure what smell you are talking about but the smell that I know of comes from a natural shampoo, Castille? or something like that, anyway that shampoo even though it supposed to clean your hair, smells like sh!t warmed over
