Nowadays I dont think any of that matters. Way back when I went to a Pentecostal church, they practiced their own form of Lent as well. They just didnt call it that but its still giving something up for 40 days, etc etc.

Coming from a family that is a mix of different sects of Christianity some habits
die hard so I will be receiving ashes and giving up alcohol.

its interesting which rituals stick with you and you continue isnt it? Has to do with what resonates inside u is my take on it.
I dont consider myself Catholic at all anymore, but I still do Lent and a couple of other things too.

I eat fish on Fridays during lent and those people cook chicken and beef in the cafeteria today... that mean I only have rice and veggies to choose from... I need a protein!!!
