Moesha's Lamont Bentley, 31, dies in LA crash

Lamont Bentley, a Milwaukee native who played Hakeem Campbell on UPN's long-running sitcom Moesha, has died in Los Angeles in a car accident, V-100 radio reported Wednesday. He was 31 years old.

Born Artimus Lamont Bentley on October 25, 1973, he was nicknamed L Rock. He voiced Gary in Hip-Hop Helicopter, a 2002 episode of the Walt Disney Television Animation series The Proud Family.

Bentley and his mother Loyce, an aspiring singer, moved to Los Angeles from Milwaukee.

He began his entertainment career in commercials, the most prominent being one for Starburst.

In 1994, he co-starred in the TV series South Central as Rashad. His movie debut came in 1995, when he co-starred as Crazy K in Tales from the Hood.

Best known as happy-go-lucky (and always hungry) Hakeem on Moesha, starring Brandy, he guested in several episodes of Clueless and The Parkers in that role.

Lamont Bentley's TV-movies included 1997's Buffalo Soldiers (as Cpl. Sea) and 2001's Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story (as Tupac "2Pac" Shakur).

Survivors include two daughters, Artesia and Brazil.
