Carnival Beach Fest May 2nd 2005 Interview
    "Workers Festival"

Keeping you guys up to date on what going on, we had an interview with David "kid-site" Piggot and Kris "K3" Lorde both from JPL Productions Inc who are planing the May Day Parade and this is how it went.

Bashybajan: Let us start with the most obvious question that is on every one mind you guys, Kid-site or K3 can you tell us what is the Carnival Beach Fest?

Kid-Site: - Ok the Beachfest is essentially and primarily a Wokers Festival including all the features and more of the traditional Mayday Celebrations which was organise by the BWU for the last 60 years which explains our partnership with the BWU.
In addition to this we have embrace as our theme the promotion of the National Initiative for Service Excellence also know as NISE, this program is part of the mass education and awareness campaign aimed at generating interest and inspiring action. We the JPL team joins in this initiative. It is with this in mind, in association with the Barbados Workers Union that we have proposed to join NISE in creating a National drive to address the need for improving customer service excellence for Barbadians, visitors and business alike. We're also pushing for "Non Violence" as this is a huge concern amoung the people of Barbados, even when it comes to events like these and the young people of our society, I for one do not like it and would really lov for it to stop.

K3: - Correct and we're therefore seeking to collaborate with the Social Partners, Government, who has by the way given their stamp of approval of this festival, the Barbados Wokers Union who we not to long mention and the Private Sector in Barbados. The festival itself is a promotional festival not only for the NISE campaign but for all the business areas who want to get invole. Linking this festival to NISE will be mutually beneficial to everyone involed and will provide an alternative festival that is at once wholesome while being enjoyable to the hundreds of workers who are expected to join us on the road from Top Rock Roundabout to Carlisle Bay. This team is not just thinking of a "bashment" but as a promotion of excellent virtues not normally associated with merry making. We bring the May Day festivities to you as a catalyst for change in the workplace.

Bashybajan: The Festival is going to parade where and seeing that business are going to have their own band, is it going to be just a Tee Shirt band?

Kid-Site: - The BWU float parade will lead the festival off followed by a mixture of bands and artiste promoting the NISE theme starting from Top Rock Roundabout and make its way along highway 7 which is Worthing, Rockley, Hastings, Bay Street untill you reach Carlisle Bay turning onto Browne's beach. Yes there are only going to be tee shirt bands, as for the tee shirts what we are proposing is that each tee shirt band will proclaim an atttriburte of NISE for eg: Productivity, Quality, Respect, Excellence, Discipline, Decorum, Politeness and all other attributes of quality service.

Bashybajan.com: - We keep hearing alot about this NISE, what is it?

Kid-Site: - Kris you want to answer that while i answer this phone?

K3: - Sure, well the National Initiative for Service Excellence (NISE) as you might know was launched in Barbados on November 30th were seven recipients including Sir Garfield Sobers and Soca Artist Rupee received the NISE Service Excellence Champion pin for 2004 from Barbados Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Owen S. Arthur. The National Initiative for Service Excellence, awards the pin for consistent and exemplary service to the nation of Barbados. The NISE programme is designed to generate a national drive towards excellence in the delivery of Barbados' products and services, more so through the young people of Barbados as they are our future. It is being sponsored by the Social Partnership and will include inputs from all stakeholders including the average Barbadian. While there will be particular emphasis on the services sector, NISE is expected to have an impact on all the productive sectors of the economy. The project has been endorsed by the Prime Minister, the Heads of the Private Sector Association and the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados all of whom are imploring Barbadians to recognise the need for service excellence. The project will be funded by the Government, the Barbados National Productivity Council and the Private Sector, with technical assistance to be rendered by external agencies. The NISE promotion is a national promotion and we are hoping that the members of the private commercial sector would want to welcome this awareness amoung their senior and junior workers. This initiative by our social partnership is intended to transform the culture of our approach to service. It is important that we understand that this is not just about over the counter service. It first and foremost relates to service as it applies to our internal customer. It begins, ladies and gentlemen, with you.

Bashybajan: - Who came up with the idea for this festival, the BWU?

Kid-Site: - Ammm no, JPL Productions Inc came up with the idea, we wanted to create a festival of a difference, one that the whole family can enjoy and one with a positive purpose. We presented our concept/proposal to the BWU and they lov our concept, it was then agreed that this workers festival will be a great way to promote the National Initiative for Service Excellence so the BWU, the JPL team and some of the representitives for Government and the Private Sector are workin together to make this Workers Festival a success.

Bashybajan: - JPL Productions? Who are they?

K3: - We are a promotional and event planing team comprise of about 8 people who's goal is to create major quality events in Barbados. The names of the JPL Team are, Curtis Jordan, Verona Yearwood, Rodney Powers, Elizabeth Turpin, Charles D Lewis, David Piggot, Kris Lorde and Lamair Nash. This festival is not our first, we also did the Barbados Tourism Carnival which was a success.

Bashybajan: - Wow this festival sounds like the bomb, i'm glad that this festival is pushing for something like this as service in Barbados is some what lacking, is there any thing else you'll like to add?

K3: - Kidsite, thats your cue.

Kid-Site: - On the day of the festival for thoes people who don't wish to take part in the march from Top Rock to Carlisle Bay, they can go to Brown's Beach and take part in the many various games and fun on the beach which goes on for the whole day, when every one get to the destination on the beach there will be tons of entertainment line up for every one's enjoyment. There will be an album coming out to support this festival with various artists and producers on different types of genres contibruting to the inititive. And lastly there will be some pre events coming up to futher promote the Workers Festival and the NISE campaign so be on the look out for that.

Bashybajan: - Well on be half of the people of Barbados and BashyBajan.com we will like to thank you 2 for giving us the scope on this festival which by the way is very positive, thanks again.

Kid-Site/K3: - Your welcome and thank you for having us. We'll like to thank all those companies who are on board with us and our sponsors, Banks, Cot Caribbean Graphics and our partners the Barbados Workers Union for their outstanding support.
