I would say we hate you too but we don't.
Way too much energy to generate hate for insignificant people.

Warriors go down in Marvin Lee friendly

RUSSELL LATAPY has a lot to think about. His Soca Warriors were outplayed by Caribbean rivals Jamaica, who walked off deserved 3-1 winners in their friendly international football match last night at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

Jamaica led 2-1 at half time, getting goals from USA-based winger Dane Richards (eighth) and Rudolph Austin (31st, penalty) while striker Devon Jorsling had the Warriors level at 1-1 at one point with a close-up goal in the 27th minute. Kavin Bryan then powered in a header from the centre of the penalty area in the 55th minute to extend the Jamaican lead.

The visitors were sent down a man after Austin was sent off 10 minutes from the end. But held on comfortably.

Drawing a sellout crowd, the match was the second of a double-header which earlier saw the T&T senior national women's team come from a goal down to beat the national Under-17 women by a 2-1 margin.

The junior Soca Princesses, who are preparing to host the 2010 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in September, were ahead after just two minutes through Nykosi Simmonds. However, by the half, the senior Soca Princesses were level at 1-1 through Tobago striker Kennya "Ya Ya" Cordner, before midfielder Tasha St Louis (49th) netted a second half winner.

For the main match, the large crowd spilled into the corridors, expecting a good showing from the Soca Warriors. Instead, the Jamaicans took an early advantage when Richards scored a great goal.

Reacting first after defender Makan Hislop charged down Bryan's shot, Richards fired off a tremendous shot on the half volley which flew into the top left corner.

Richards should have had another goal in the 21st minute, but he turned the ball over an empty goal from close-up, after Ryan Johnson out-worked Hislop on the left.

Despite looking slow and second best, T&T levelled in the 27th when striker Devon Jorsling touched in a curling cross from Keon Daniel. But just four minutes later, Jamaica were back ahead at 2-1 in the 31st minute, Austin putting away a penalty after Bryan spun on Carlyle Mitchell and was brought down. Jamaica then had several chances to further extend their advantage. The Reggae Boyz showed balance and speed on either flanks, Ryan Johnson tormenting Hislop on the left, while Richards gave a shaky Aklie Edwards an equally bad time.

Apart from the opportunist goal, the Soca Warriors were bad in almost every position, expect for Kevon Carter on the right flank. But he was often isolated and got little support from his teammates.

Keon Daniel looks not to have improved much despite his Puerto Rico Islanders stint, although he provided a nice curling cross for the equaliser, and also shot into the side netting in the 17th minute. And defenders Aklie Edwards and Makan Hislop both looked undecided on the ball. Most glaring, was the lack of movement among the Warriors, forcing them to resort to long passes.

T&T began the second half better and had an immediate chance in the opening seconds but Daniel's low pass found no one at the back post. However, the Jamaicans were soon into a 3-1 lead in the 55th, scoring on the counter-attack when Bryan headed in a cross in from the centre of the penalty area.

The Soca Warriors looked marginally better and substitute Kendall Jagdeosingh and Jason Marcano were able to come close to scoring. Suddenly, Jamaica were not looking so good, and were contented to play on the counter attack. Still the Soca Warriors were unable to make any further impact.

    Teams:

    TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: 21-Jan Michael Williams, 3-Aklie Edwards, 4-Kerry Baptiste, 6-Keston Williams, 7-Houghton Hector, 8-Trent Noel, 9-Devon Jorsling, 11-Kevon Carter, 16-Makan Hislop, 17-Carlyle Mitchell, 19-Keon Daniel. Subs: 1-Marvin Philip (GK), 2-Atullah Guerra, 12-Jason Marcano, 13-Kendall Jadgeosingh, 18-Devon Jamerson, 5-Daniel Cyrus.

    JAMAICA: 1- Donovan Ricketts (GK), 2-Richard Edwards, 6-Jermaine Taylor, 4-Shavar Thomas, 7-Ryan Johnson, 8-Eric Vernan, 9-Kavin Bryan, 10-Dane Richards, 11-Troy Smith, 16-Dicoy Williams, 17-Rudolph Austin.
