Haiti should be focused on building CARICOM ties first.

ok so this proved my point...Haiti could straddle being African and Caribbean at the same time but they still need to build the Caribbean connection for logical reasons.

Haiti joined the African Union

The news is almost unnoticed. Until then mere "observer", Haiti, the first black republic in history, became, in early February in Addis Ababa, "full associate member" of the African Union (AU).

Haiti is the first non-African to become a member of the African Union. February 4 at the AU summit in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, the Pearl of the Antilles has traded his status of "observer" to that of "associate member". A first that will be formalized at the next AU summit held in June in Malawi, to the delight of Kpatindé Francis, a journalist from Benin, who was impatient to see Africa bear a hand to the first black republic.

If Haiti in 2012 was in need of a boost from its African cousins, Mr. Kpatindé reminds us that it is Haiti that was once the defense of the black continent. First black republic, independent since 1804, Haiti has often been in the past the voice of African countries in search of independence.

The heads of state meeting in Addis Ababa were warmly welcomed, and understandably, the return of Haiti in the African family, recalling the diplomatic efforts made by this country in 1945 to the advent of African states free, his denunciations of the invasion of Ethiopia by Mussolini's Italy, its progressive stance against the war in Algeria, support for the independence of Libya and assistance to African Democratic Rally, this great Pan-African political formation that accompanied many countries of the continent to international sovereignty.

Haiti is interested in Africa? It is in the order of things. All those who, like me, have lived in this beautiful country are hardly surprised. The third island [The Dominican Republic occupies the eastern part of the island] in apnea for over two centuries, after all, most "African" States of South America and the Caribbean. Haiti, like many African countries, is recurrently plagued by instability and violence, while its population has languished in misery. Independent on 1 January 1804, shortly after the United States (1776), but well ahead of Colombia (1810), Argentina (1816), Brazil (1822) and Canada (1867), Haiti is lagging behind everything except literature, poetry, painting, music, in other words, what is the soul of a people.

Africans would do well to pay more attention to this piece of Caribbean history, a land that is played, perhaps, their own destiny. Haiti is both a wonderful future projection and a living laboratory from which can emerge the best and the worst. In this, Haiti, "where the blackness stood up for the first time" (the formula is of Aimé Césaire [1913-2008]), is both our past and our future.

everything is not about benefit darling

Haiti has never support resolution against Cuba and Venezuela despite us resistance and support

it's all about being close to people who look like US and who share common interest

Senegal had offers free land for Haitian following the earthquake despite our long distance

we are as closer to them more than you can imagine

besides

Africa can have a more future potential impact on Haiti than all the Caribbean itself
