Five charged with having DVDs
‘Guyanese Girls Gone Wild’:




FIVE men appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates Court yesterday charged with having the fast-selling porno DVD ‘Guyanese Girls Gone Wild’.

The DVDs of Guyanese girls and men are going like hot cakes around the country and the charges came amid media reports that young women have also complained that graphic photos of them in sex acts with some rich young men have been posted on the Internet.


Cabinet last week asked the Police Force to investigate the distribution of the photos on the Internet and several groups have called for action against those responsible for making and posting the graphic pictures on the Internet.


Those charged by Police last Friday with the ‘Guyanese Girls Gone Wild’ DVDs are Bernard Sinclair, 26, of Lot 41 William Street, Kitty, Georgetown; Mahase Prashad, 35, of Lot 6 Uitvlugt Front, West Coast Demerara; Shabbir Baksh, 34, of Lot 98 New Road, Vreed-En-Hoop, West Coast Demerara; Ramchandradat Singh, 27, of Lot 108 Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, and Wren Babb, 27, of Lot 440 South Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara.


They appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan charged with having the DVD.


The charge read to Sinclair stated that on July 14, 2006 at Reggae Video Club, Barr Street, Kitty, for the purpose of trade, he possessed an obscene object -- a DVD entitled ‘Guyanese Girls Gone Wild’.


Attorney-at-law Hewly Griffith represented Sinclair and told the court that his client was a mere employee and the owner of the business place is Rayon’s House of Fashion.


He said his client had no information about the DVD and was just working at the time.


Prashad was charged with having the DVD at Avon DVD Video Club, Camp Street, Georgetown.


Baksh is accused of having it at Joseph’s Cassette, CD and DVD Shop, Regent and King Streets, also in the city.


Singh was allegedly found with the ‘Guyanese Girls Gone Wild’ videos at the Extreme DVD Shop in America Street, Georgetown.


Babb was also allegedly found with the DVD at America Street.


The five pleaded not guilty and were each placed on $50,000 bail.
They are to return to court on August 21.
