    Fellas...Wearing A Mangagement Ring?

You ask your woman to marry you...and traditionally she is the only one who wears an engagement ring until the marriage. But what if she wants you to wear one too? Check this article....

If you like him, put a ring on it: Introducing 'mangagement' rings - engagement bands for MEN.

If ever there was a sign that times are a-changing, it may be the rising popularity of men's engagement rings.

'Mangagement' rings are said to gaining popularity among heterosexual couples who have a forward-thinking outlook on relationships, with equality-minded men happy to make the same public 'pre-commitment' as women.

Amanda Gizzi from the Jewelry Information Center recently told GalTime.com that 'engagement rings for men are a new concept here in the United States.

'Men and women both wear engagement rings in a lot of countries around the world. For the United States it has never been our tradition. Therefore, it is a foreign concept to most people.'

The practice of both a man and a woman wearing rings on the right hand when engaged, then switching them to the left hand when married, is common in South America, for example.

She says that in the U.S., the idea is more focused on new-found equality - ideal for men who wish to indicate to the world they they, too, are off the market.

'The idea that the man will also wear an engagement ring gives relationships a new sense of equality. It is a pre-commitment, commitment from both the man and the woman.'

Not only are more women emboldened to pop the question nowadays - a recent poll by an online dating site in the UK found that while the idea was unthinkable 30 years ago, one in ten women have now proposed - but gay marriages are providing a market for mannish versions of diamond bands.

Whether brushed silver, gold or tungsten, or featuring a diamond, mangagement rings are, like women's, all down to personal taste.

A browse across jewellery sites yields a vast selection of men's diamond engagement rings, some featuring wide bands with discrete gems, others more traditionally feminine.

But whether jewellery retailers are fuelling the trend, or responding to changing habits, is another question.

'The groom's engagement band is just a sales tactic invented by jewelers to trick young couples into spending money'

Chris Easter of TheManRegistry.com told Details magazine in 2009 that he is sceptical: 'We're in a rough economy. The groom's engagement band is just a sales tactic invented by jewelers to trick young couples into spending money.'

While the trend is one the rise, he believes we have a long way to go until the average man is ready to wear a diamond ring before tying the knot.

'I don't think we've reached the point where we'll be seeing a man showing off his shiny new engagement ring to his buddies,' he said.

Others are more positive towards the niche trend. Speaking in 2009, Brad Gross of H.L. Gross & Bro Jewelers in Garden City, NY told ABC's nightline that rather than being a marketing ploy, mangagement rings are good value for what they represent.

'If you think about it, a woman is engaged and wears an engagement ring on her finger, oftentimes [for] north of a year.

'And a guy's engaged during that same time and walks into a bar as a free man ... so I think for $350, $400 for a woman to claim her territory, it's catching on pretty quickly.

yeah, whatever makes the couple happy. there's a couple at my church where they both wear rings. usually they announce it before ppl get married, but i don't recall hearing about a wedding yet. i wonder if they're doing the whole 'management' ring thing. (i know i should stop maco the ppl business)

i don't understand why it's called a 'management' ring either. seems negative-- like the woman managing the man or some mess...
