    Drug bust in St. Elizabeth yields 100 pounds of ganja and leaves one man dead

    The St. Elizabeth Police claim a man believed to be linked to the drugs for guns trade involving Haitians and Jamaicans, was shot dead during an alleged confrontation with the police in Goshen.

    A firearm, ammunition and a large quantity of ganja were reportedly seized by the police.

    Another man was shot and injured during the reported shoot-out.

    Police have identified the dead man as 38-year-old Noel Abel, while the injured man, who has not yet been identified, remains hospitalised under police guard.

    Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) Liaison Officer for St. Elizabeth, Corporal Sophia Daley said the police, assisted by the Area Three Flying Squad, conducted a joint operation in Goshen.

    She said the injured men were taken to hospital where Mr. Abel was pronounced dead, while a third man escaped in bushes.

    Investigators say 100 pounds of ganja, which was being prepared for export, was taken from the house.




    Two men injured following tourists robbery

    Two gunmen who early Friday morning held up a group of visitors to the island in Portmore, St. Catherine, were shot and injured by the police.

    It is reported that tourists drove up to a house in Bridgeport, when two armed men attacked them, stealing their vehicle which was laden with luggage and other personal effects.

    About an hour later, the vehicle with the men aboard was spotted by the police along Old Harbour Road in the parish.

    They were signaled to stop, but reportedly refused and opened fire at the police, who returned the fire.

    The men fled the vehicle and one of them was found in nearby bushes, with a Glock pistol with 11 rounds.

    The other gunman was held shortly after, when he turned up at hospital with a gunshot wound to his stomach.

    The police say the men will face an identification parade in connection with a spate of robberies in Portmore.


    Two of three slain in shoot out yet to be identified

    The police have not yet identified two of three men who were fatally shot during a gun battle with the police in Moneague, St. Ann Thursday.

    The men are alleged to be members of the notorious Montego Bay based Stone Crusher Gang.

    One of the men has been identified as Damion Vassell, a senior member of the gang.

    Head of the St. James Police, Superintendent Steve McGregor says Vassell has been linked to the fatal shooting of two policemen.

    "Damion Vassell is suspected to be the main shooter in Sergeant Lindsey's murder earlier in the month. We are also following some data we have picked up from the scene that has linked this man to the murder of Cornel Lewis that was done earlier on in the month," said Superintendent McGregor.

    "We will continue our hunt for these men who are responsible for mayhem in the St. James Division since the beginning of the year and we ask the citizens to bear with us," he continued.

    Three firearms, including Sergeant Lindsay's service pistol and two police ballistics vest were seized in the operation.

    49 rounds of ammunition were also seized.


    Alleged cop killer fatally shot by police

    Another alleged cop killer was fatally shot by the police Thursday.

    He is 25-year-old Kemar Parks otherwise called Chicken of an Arnett Gardens address.

    It is reported that the police were carrying out an operation in the Arnett Gardens community when they were challenged by a group of men.

    This led to a shoot-out.

    Following the shooting, Parks was found with gunshot wounds.

    A nine millimetre pistol was reportedly taken from him.

    He was later pronounced dead at hospital.

    The police say Parks was being sought for questioning in connection with the murder of Constable Valentino Chambers.

    Constable Chambers who was attached to the Hannah Town Police Station was shot dead on November 29 when gunmen ambushed his vehicle along Slipe Pen Road in Kingston.
