no less than 4MP so you can easily print a 8 x 10 after cropping the photo

4MP or 5MP is quite fine unless you trying to create billboards.

Also, pay close attention to your OPTICAL Zoom.... NOT Digital Zoom. DZ doh mean shyte....ignore that.

What's one of the best ones out right now in your opinion for a decent price?

Exactly....Try to get a 4x optical zoom or higher. Also there are many good cameras at a decent price that are 6mp-8mp. I would also try to stick to Canon, Nikon or Olympus.

is this a good buy????? I see you didnt mention Sony, when I went to circut city this past weekend they told me Cannon and Sony are equally the same, but cannon is more pricy due to the titanium covering and it has more shooting modes....what are your thoughts on this.......you seem to know about cameras

I have a sony & like it a lot. I may go with a canon this year though to try it out...but I find both the video clips & pics come out fine with the sony & it's easy to use.

The best camera I've used was the canon rebel but it was for work....not my personal camera.

It has a lot of shooting modes, it was 8mp and the pics were just immaculate.

Initially I was interested in the Nikon Coolpix series, however folks are saying that those are shitty. They only LOOK nice. Looks like I'm gonna have to go with a Canon...I'm seeing it and hearing its the best EVERYWHERE.

    Never.

That is like saying if Sharp makes a computer it will be just as good as an IBM, Dell or Mac. It might be good, but it will never be as good. Buy a camera from a manufacturer that specializes in cameras. As NYC2BGI said....Canon, Nikon or Olympus.

I know from experience that Canon produces great cameras. I have bought 2 Canon and 3 Olympus digital cameras. Canon is the industry leader. I also mention Nikon because after Canon, many pros also use Nikon. I have also used some of the other brands but the quality is not the same. Check out this website before you make your choice. It reviews all brands of digital cameras so that you can make an unbiased and informed purchase.
