INVITE YOU TO ATTEND THE LECTURE “Mi No Talk like Foreigner: Mother Tongue & Body Language in Jamaican Dancehall Culture” By Dr. Carolyn Cooper Professor of Literary and Cultural Studies,, and Director, Caribbean Studies Institute The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus Founders Library, Room 300A (Next to the African-American Studies Library) Thursday, December 1, 2005 3:30- 5:30 PM “Cooper is an innovative theorist whose highly original work on Jamaican popular culture has stimulated lively debates in the fields of Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Caribbean Studies, Languages and Literature. She is the author of Noises in the Blood: Orality, Gender and the “Vulgar” Body of Jamaican Popular Culture and Sound Clash: Jamaican Dancehall Culture at Large.” There will be a book signing for Sound Clash and reception following the lecture. We also invite you, from 6:30- 9:00 pm, to a book signing and reception hosted by the Embassy of Jamaica, 1520 New Hampshire Avenue NW near the Dupont Circle Station on the Red Line. |
