DAMIAN "JR GONG" MARLEY beats out KEVIN LYTTLE...WOW!!!!!!

(BPRW)(BW)(NY-UNIVERSAL/MARLEY) Damian ''Jr. Gong'' Marley Posts Highest Debuting Reggae Album in Chart History; Marley's WELCOME TO JAMROCK Lands at Number 7

NEW YORK(BLACK PR WIRE)(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 21, 2005--Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley made history today when his Ghetto Youths/Tuff Gong/Universal Records release, WELCOME TO JAMROCK, entered the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart at Number 7, selling over 85,000 units and making it the biggest opening week for a Reggae artist in the history of the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart.

By debuting at Number 7, Marley beat out Reggae/Soca artist Kevin Lyttle whose 2004 release charted at Number 8, selling 84,270 in his first week of release.

Fueled by the title track single, "Welcome To Jamrock" was called "an early contender for song of the decade," by the New York Times, People Magazine gave the release 3 1/2 stars, Entertainment Weekly gave the release an "A", and Rolling Stone Magazine names Marley as one of the "10 Artists To Watch."

Marley's performance this week on Jimmy Kimmel Live and the announcement that he will open for U2 on fifteen dates on their fall tour, ensure that WELCOME TO JAMROCK will be an upper chart contender for some time to come.

Marley begins his slew of dates with U2 on October 16th in Philadelphia and parts ways with the Irish rock band on November 9th in Oakland, California, playing 15 dates in. Then on November 3rd the Grammy Award winning Marley will embark on his own fall headlining tour hitting 24 cities across the United States.

Co-produced by Damian and Stephen Marley, WELCOME TO JAMROCK features such artists as Stephen Marley, Bounty Killer, Eek-A-Mouse, NAS, Black Thought of The Roots, and Bobby Brown.

I've listened to dis album and studied it thoroughly, I may even do a proper review of it for a website.

I'm not too impressed with the album, although not surprised either.

I believe his popularity in America can be attributed to his rapping style vs. chanting style of a Reggae singer.

Personally, I'm not feeling it too tough although he does have about 3 - 5 really good chunes on it in my opinion, including the title track, "Welcome To Jamrock."

He has one called "We're Gonna Make It" which I like although it doesn't sound as good on record as it does when he performs it live...the other scorcher on there is "There For You" where he sings.

I think the Marleys all shine when they follow their dad's footsteps, and they falter as they stray away from that formula.

I would like to see a full release from his older brother Stephen Marley, who in my opinion sounds almost exactly like Bob.

I've also seen them perform recently over the summer and their stage-show is killler...however the LPs are not too impressive...his first album..'Me Name Jr. Gong' was lackluster as well in my opinion.

But, when they put on a show he give you your money's worth and the live band makes the songs sound better...plus you get to see all the Rastas dem come out and carry on like how we love to see dem carry on...jumpin up and bouncing up all over de place wavin big Red, Green & Gold flags.
