Me calling you a "dumbass" wasn't an attempt to insult you dumbass, it was a frank assessment of your argument...that had the dominicans stylists not been making incursions in the markets of black Americans the article wouldn't have been published. In fact this is old news coming out the DR...

Imagine if these black stylists ever got their act together and lobbied for reparations...or God forbid, the legalization of weed. Man if they got this story published even Cheney himself go be toking up tomorrow morning.

I don't go to black american salons to get my hair done either, but this is dealing with way more than that.

a lot of those dominican hair stylists have NASTY attitutudes towards females with longer or straighter hair than theirs. i experienced this and i've seen other females with long hair or "mixed" hair experience the same thing. i used to go to this place tatti's on flatbush avenue when i used to wear my hair straight and long and the one chick that was running the salon had a real stink attitude towards me anytime i went in there. she would skip over me and take other customers ahead of me.... until one day i told her ass off. one of the other stylists did my hair and i never went back there again. i bought dat pink dominican conditioner, i learned how to roller set and blow dry my own hair and it used to come out just as good.

i've seen chicks with long hair ask dominican stylists for a trim and they would cut of sooo much of their hair just outta jealousy. i NEVER let dem chicks put any chemicals or a scissor in my hair... wash, set and wrap dats its. dem girls have no skill when it comes to styling, they're barely hairdressers... they're just a bunch of shampoo girls wid a hot blowdryer.

WTH!?! That is ridiculous! She deserved it. Just because some ah dem hair done fall out from all that heat. When they used to tell me I need a trim, I would just say "uh huh, that's ok." None of them taking any scissors to my hair at all either or any chemicals. They don't style, probably because they just feel it's quicker and easier to get more people in and out. I am telling everybody to give the Ethiopians/Eritreans a try. Took my best friend the other day and she absolutely loved it.

yall were goin to the wrong places... just as with any other business there are some with stink attitudes, but there are some who do care, and are genuine. I guess its just the relationship you build with your stylist. I know some who will refuse to cut your hair, cuz their like no, its so beautiful. And my stylist will not touch up my hair if it is less than a certain stretch... I have to tell her sometimes, its my hair, or beg her to cut more. She also doesnt like to use too much heat, and will only blow out the roots as opposed to bone straight.

If I go someplace, and Im not feeling their attitude, or like what theyre doin, I say see ya, and thats that.

Maybe so. I'm just speaking based on my experience, having gone to and/or heard about quite a few area salons. There is now only one Dominican salon in the DC area that I will go to. My preference is definitely for East Africans...

I know, but I just wanted to clear up that they aren't all like that. Ive had experiences with some of them having an attitude too. I dont know of any East African places in the BK area. Do you know of any? I'd give them a try.

I know not all dominican stylists are like that but i've been to a number of different dominican salons when i used to wrap my hair and i felt that the service was very impersonal. you basically get treated like a number on an assembly line. but what more can u expect when they doing 100+ heads a day in one salon. there's gonna be a lack of good customer service.

I never let them blow my hair real straight b/c i thought that was too much heat after i had to sit under a dryer for an hour and a half.. i just used to let them blow out the bump at the roots from the rollers and wrap my hair up.

Yes, it's certainly true that not all of them have attitudes. I'm simply not into them anymore. Sorry I couldn't tell you about East African salons in BK, don't live in NYC. The DC area probably has them due to this being their largest area of immigration...

what you and others fail to realize is that nyc does not encompass the whole of the us...black american stylists get their paper in other states...look at georgia, or any of the southern states...look at detroit, mi (home of wild hair)...oklahoma, etc.

i went to 2 different dominican salons cause my girlfriend swears by them, and i felt the same way...they so busy rushing you out, they not paying you no real mind...waste of time and money...

they dont realize that black hair is not as strong as theirs, esp. when relaxed so they will fry the hell out of some hair...i used to tell them to just take out the rollers and wrap me...no need for more heat after an hour and a half under the dryer!

So if straightening curly hair is obvious evidence of Dominicans running away from their Black ancestry, why aren't Dominican men applying conk on their hair ala Malcolm X or Farrakhan? Most Dominican men have their hair quite natural.
