In Caribbean text books, who discovered your island/country?

Do they always say Columbus? Or do they give any credit to the South Americans or Africans that also may have discovered your country?

When I was in grade school our textbooks had a drawing of Columbus holding
an orange with a butterfly that had landed on it which was used to emphasize
that Columbus was out to prove that the world was round. What they failed
to inform us is that the Egyptians had proven that the earth was round and
measured the circumference to a very high level of accuracy about 400 or 500 years before Christ.

From what I remember, they said that he "REdiscovered" Trinidad and Tobago, because we are also taught that the warlike Caribs and the peaceful Arawaks were here before he was.
