Is the caribbean becoming lil America?

Do you think the caribbean(world) is getting more Americanized, immoral or just 'evolving' on its own?

Is it the way of dressing, attitude or the entire American culture that is being adopted?

    a little of both

also keep in mind that a vacuum was left when colonialism did

something was going to fill it.

even though we are living in a globalized world ,being in americas backyard will influence the Caribbean more than countries that are not.

Getting? Try been. It is due to outside influence/shrinking world but ppl really don't really adopt things that weren't always there. Just that strict mores kept many things hidden but now that those same things are glorified in US/CA/UK culture they're blatant in the Caribbean now. In other words boundaries gone. Plus more ppl have money to buy all the accoutrement of the foreign lifestyles they covet.

And that's a shame that we look outward to fill the void instead of inward.

Indeed. America has a great influence, also I find the music and access to more cable shows are influencing young people a lot, some argue it is to their detriment? What do you'll think? Are we losing some of that 'caribbean flavor.'

Don't you also find that some people feel the need to prove or show what they have or can get to indicate their wealth or status? Almost like look at me now, I'm doing things....

The world is shrinking... global influences are everywhere and hybrid cultures are supplanting native ones. Unfortunately it seems largely the negative influences that are taking root.

Chillybebe props to u on this thread............but I disagree..............the caribbean has been influenced greatly over the years but to say the caribbean is americanized...........i think heavily influenced is the word that should be used. I think the caribbean people that have this opinion usually live in the U.S. Ask people who live in the islands are they americanized what do u think they would say? Also have u ever heard any one living in the caribbean claiming to be americanized?

Just because they don't claim it doesn't mean they not Americanized. I hear people talking about 'summer' vacations... meaning 'August' vacations as we used to call them in TnT when I was young. Man walking aroung de hot ass caribbean with scarf arung dey neck... wtf??

Man in Tims... leather and bubble jacket in 75 degree weather

Dudes acting and women dressing like what they see in the rap videos...

The list goes on and on.
