Aug 25 2004 Kc Hideaway Brooklyn NY get ready to mesmerize, a talented Trinidadian artiste, whose influences and ambitions extend across the Caribbean and beyond, Bunji has become the people's champion. Men respect and admire him, ladies lust after him, the youths idolize him and the kids most definitely love him. No fete party or live event can stand still in his presence. He is the ultimate performer; the lyrical master, who addresses his loyal supporters and dwindling critics alike.
See Bunji Garlin live at kc Hideaway Tonight at Kc Hideaway 2494 Atlantic ave Brooklyn NY ,Since his debut in 1998, Bunji Garlin has entered the raga-Soca genre and made it his own. His quick-witted delivery and baritone voice has made him one of the premiere artists of the Caribbean and soon the World. Born Ian Alvarez, in the Eastern Trinidad town of Sangre Grande, Bunji honed his now widely lauded skills in many local competitions and parties. 1998 would mark the year that he would strike the match and set the Caribbean music world on fire. His first single, “Send Dat Riddim Crazy” would propel him into stardom as one of the Caribbean’s artists to watch. This fusion of hip hop, reggae and Soca coupled with Bunji’s unmistakable voice and intricate lyrics made the song an anthem that year. After that Carnival season Garlin toured the Caribbean and performed at Carnival celebrations across the globe. He then signed with IP Music International and produced “The Chronicles” album (1999). The album featured a mix of Soca, dancehall and hip hop influences and showed the critics that “Send Dat Riddim Crazy” was not a one-time hit. He has since released “Revelations” (2002) and his latest masterpiece “Black Spaniard” (2003) featuring party anthems “Snake Oil” and “By the Bar” and introspective songs like “Alive” and the touching “Wishful Encounters”. In 2004, Bunji's many talents continue to unfold as he delves head-first into the realm of production on his fourth solo disc, Graceful Vengeance. Tracks like "Warrior Cry" and "One Family" have already been touted as crowd favorites and on this new LP, Bunji embellishes his triumphant position, as the fearless warrior of the ragga-soca generation.
Bunji now performs with his live band the Sensation and heads the multi-talented Godfather’s Asylum featuring Gailann, Benjai, Ninja, Scarface and Shammi. Recently Garlin has performed live on MTV2 at The International Music Festival. He has been working on tracks with the likes of Bounty Killa and Mr. Doo and has worked alongside dancehall producers like Goldfinger and Robert Livingston. He has performed on the same stage as reggae greats Beenie Man and Capleton.
Bunji is also the 2003 and 2004 soca monarch and remain at the top of his game
