Talking blacks, Hispanics and Bronx residents are more likely to be obese

The poll found that the mayor’s plan, which does not affect diet sodas, is likely to have a disproportionate impact on black and Hispanic New Yorkers, more of whom said they usually consumed regular, full-sugared sodas than whites.

Seven in 10 black New Yorkers, and about 60 percent of Hispanics, said they usually drank regular sodas, compared with nearly 40 percent of whites. Residents of Manhattan said they were more likely to drink diet soda than those living in the other boroughs.

Higher consumption of regular soda tracks closely with city statistics on obesity, which show that blacks, Hispanics and Bronx residents are more likely to be obese or overweight than whites and Manhattan residents.

diet soda is bad too. i'm sure there are other contributing factors to the obesity rates. are these blacks, hispanics, and bronx residents buying the $0.50 sodas? are they even still $0.50? LOL...tropical fantasy and such.

There are but one of the biggest contributing factors to the obesity epidemic is consumption of refined sugars, and that's essentially what soda is.

I didn't realise how bad soda was myself until I cut it out of my diet for lent last year and ended up losing 8 lbs

i heard that if you drink a can of soda a day for a year you'll gain 10lbs. i drink mostly water. i'll drink soda if i crave it, but that's not often.

I'm cutting back on juice too...many of them sugar-wise are just as bad for your as soda, although at the very least they bring some nutrients into your diet.
