They can both give each other a run for the money but I'll have to go with Beenie on this one.

Those old time riddims are just music to the ears but I like Beenie's riddim better and I love the video mostly because it brings you back in time when you see those old dances and fashion styles (spandex, wigs, massive rope necklaces). Reminds me of "DanceHall Queen"

You seem to share some of the views of this guy from a Bajan paper
GUEST COLUMN: DJs the real culprits here
    Published on: 3/13/06.

    BY ALISTAIR HAYNES

SINCE THE UNITED STATES' invasion of Iraq, it seems as though we have become so anti-American that we are even blaming them for the indiscipline of our young people.

When I hear, on the call-in programmes, callers blaming Black Entertainment Television (BET) and video games as the leading causes, as a young person who has been there and done that, I am amazed to see how blind most of these over-40s are as to what is really going on in the psyche of our youth.

Can any of you tell me how many young people have the time to watch BET? And certainly video games are becoming more and more obsolete.

The indiscipline on the ZR vans, the drug culture, the scanty dressing of young girls and even the way our young men are speaking all leads to the Jamaican dub culture.

Sunday mornings on Hott 95.3 FM have now become like a dub fete and we are now seeing the trend where not only have we a programme which encourages our young people to drink away their lives, but the FM stations are hiring dancehall DJs just because of their popularity at dub fetes.

This causes me to ask the question: what are the criteria for becoming a DJ on either Hott FM or 98.1 FM? Certainly, they speak a language that is far worse than Bajan dialect, along with the fact that I have never heard them read a script, it seems to me that studying mass communications to become a young radio announcer is a waste of time.

I have never heard any of these DJs telling listeners to say "no" to marijuana or just "no" to drugs, because they know what it would do to their popularity; rather, all you would hear daily is bigging up crews like the Syrupy Girls, The Spouting Girls, The Pudding Crew, The Smoke A Lot Crew, and so on, and not once would you ever hear an educational programme, when the chief executive officers of these stations know fully well that these stations are far more popular than any North American station, BET or video game.

But what makes things worse is the introduction of Passa Passa in Barbados (a Jamaican street party) which the government of Grenada has said no to.

Believe me, as a young person these events are where you would hear the most cruel and crude lyrics you would ever hear in the open air and our young girls have now adopted this trend where in Jamaica the style is to wear your skirts above your bottom. Just take a look at Dancehall Reggae.Com and not BET from America.

Still Hott 95.3 now has a show called Passa Passa Friday.

A young boy in primary school was asked what he wanted to be when he grew up and he said a ganja farmer (a song by a Jamaican artist). Then there are songs like White People Praise Jesus We Nah Follow (sung by Turbulence), not to mention Vibes Cartel, and Dr Evil who has the most sexual lyrics, but they are the most popular songs, even more popular than any rap song out of America.

Just ask your eight-year-old son or daughter. You would be surprised to learn they can sing every single word.
