    any true ms excel experts?

    i use the vlookup function nonstop, but it is limited in that it will return only the first result found in a spreadsheet. is there a way to grab all the results it finds easily?

    What do you mean by all the results? Meaning in a particular column ranging from 1-10? :

    i have a spreadsheet which looks like this

    NAME HARDWARE TYPE
    doe, john laptop IBM
    doe, john laptop DELL
    doe, john laptop MAC

    a vlookup function of 'doe, john' in 3rd column will only return results found for 1st entry (IBM)

    how do i get all 3 to return value of DELL and MAC in new sheet?

    Salty you have to use a combination of functions with a formula that utilizes a combination of the Index function, Small function, Row function (all in an array formula).

    I have copy and pasted an example..

    =INDEX(A2:C6,SMALL(IF(A2:C6="apple",ROW(A2:C6)-ROW(A2)+1,ROW(C6)+1),3),2)

    When creating your array formula, you need to use Ctrl+Shift+Enter instead of Enter. This creates {} brackets around your formula as follows:

    {=INDEX(A2:C6,SMALL(IF(A2:C6="apple",ROW(A2:C6)-ROW(A2)+1,ROW(C6)+1),3),2)}
    The only drawback is that there is no way for the function to know how many instances of an item there are automatically so you have to adjust the bolded number to fit..
